I didn't know they barbequed pork that much in Texas. Good to see them changing over from that lackluster barbequed beef.

Salt Lick is more of tourist destination. Within a mile of each other in Austin there are 4 of the best BBQ places in the country.

My brother lives in San Antonio and we drove all the way up to the original on one of my visits and I thought he was crazy to drive that far for food. I couldn't have been more wrong. It's pretty much in the middle of nowhere, but you can smell it from about a mile away.

We have two very good high end BBQ joints in Philly in Fette Sau and Percy Street. Fette Sau is one of restaurateur and Temple alum Stephen Starr's restaurants, and opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn first. For not being Kansas City, they're damn good. Actually went last weekend.

It certainly isn't the reason you think it is...otherwise Lexington wouldn't be on the list. I think it's honestly just the city. Lexington is know for BBQ and it's festival. Eastern NC BBQ is more of a regional thing than it is specific to Greenville. JMO

When Hawaii and New York make the list, it can't be a serious list.

These lists always kill me. Anthony Bourdain came to Atlanta for The Layover show and ate BBQ at Fatt Matt's which to me is the equivalent of eating a McDonald's hamburger. They should call these lists "List of What I Personally Think are the Best Places I Personally Have Visited"

New York...wow

Maybe not compared to places like Dallas, etc., but NYC has pretty damn good BBQ. In addition to Southerners who have moved there, you have wealthy restaurateurs like Stephen Starr who have the time and money to learn the process of what makes BBQ in NC, TX, TN, KS, etc. so great and also hiring people who are from those areas. I know the 'head chef' at Fette Sau in Philly is from NC.

Atlanta has guys with oil drum offset smokers in an empty parking lot. You dont have to be a wealthy restaurateur to make great Q.

Unless the Lockhart joints have opened Austin locations without my knowledge, having Austin > Lockhart is pretty LOL.

Austin joints have passed Lockhart. Franklins, John Muellers Meat Co., LA BBQ.

Are all in the the top 10 in Texas. A couple of good newcomers in Houston, Pappa Charlies and Killens(Pearland)
