Let's not forget back when MJ came from Wilmington, ILM was about the size of many of those cities/towns

Ummmmmmm. I dunno about that. lol Wilmington has never been Raleigh/Charlotte size, but it's always been larger than towns in the 252. The only "city" in 252 is Greenville. Elizabeth City is also an exception but has never been as large as the Port City of NC.
Sure, but the population of Wilmington in 1980 was 44k. That's significantly different than now. that was my point, while certainly larger than some of the places you mention, back then it was a "small town".

He reputably plays hard from what I've read so he may help on D too-we shall see.

His #'s aren't great as he plays on a great team so you just don't know. He sounds like a guy that can develop into a very good player over time with reps and practice and may be a little raw at first, but an energy guy with bounce and skill. A winning mentality with projectable ability is a good thing. Heck, I'd love to see him/others attacking the hole off the dribble one good time.

I really like Boggs' potential. He's long and athletic, also has a nice jumper. I just don't know how much he contributes next season. As of now, I don't think he's quite strong enough to play 4 but he could definitely see time at the 3.

Personally, I like having a number of guys at positions because it helps when we have periods like we did this year with depleted roster availability for any number of reasons.

For sure, and we proved with KK that you can win with smaller lineups. I'm not sure if that fits with the current strategy.

RE: Recruit Updates
Wilmington is not just about MJ. We've had Roman Gabriel, Sonny Jurgenson, Clyde Simmons, Trot Nixon, Meadow Lark Lemon, and many others.
My cousin (Jack King) played at NHHS and Clemson, and was good enough to be drafted by the Niners. Another cousin played baseball at the then Wilmington College when they won two JC National Championships. And then went to state and got drafted. We had a guy that played basketball at ODU and played NBA. Just can't remember his name. Then there was the great Charlie Nevin who played at Duke. He was once considered the best athlete in NC sports history. I played with Charles "Bubba" Smith, who was the best fb player in the state his senior year. Drafted by the Broncos and was rated #2 on their skills test as a rookie. Knee injuries his first two exhibition seasons was his downfall. And Althea Gibson developed her skills right here in Wilmington.
But I digress. LoL
Don't want to take away from the fact that 252 is a hot bed for athletes.

It is no secret that most top recruits play for private schools and it has been that way for a while. You can go back in time of course and those were the good old days for sure. I saw Jordan play here in high school and his team was really good-not good enough to beat a loaded New Hanover HS team. Those days are gone but I hold out some hope they might return.
Word of God,Greensboro Day are just two od many private schools that recruit heavily on the high school scene and operate basically like college programs. Its a seedy part of basketball along with travel ball that has driven the game into a different spot.
ON a side note the Kinston coach is now ar Ashley HS and they have all most zero talent right now as is the case with Wilmington public HS ball as whole. The two best teams in Wilmington right now are Cape Fear Academy and Coastal Christian. Both very small private schools that recruit players.
Hopefully the kid is as good as he thinks he is because UNCW needs some swag out there!

We now have what I believe is our second recruit from Word of God. The first had committed to Benny Moss. But he never set foot in a classroom. Thanks to Word of God losing their accreditation. Ruined the kid's chances.

Greene Central fell to Farmville Central in the 2A Eastern Regional on Saturday 78-59. Dodd had 23pts, 11 rebs, 7 blks. Imajae had an absolute dominant senior season. Can't wait to see him in the teal next season. Blue Edwards called Imajae the best player in school history. Quite the statement from a man that played 10 seasons in the NBA.

That's a wild stat line, especially since his team fell by 19 pts. I have a funny feeling watching him and Toews play together is going to be something really special.

Toews, Dodd, and Sims are a really nice young core, we'll see what Boggs and Linnsen can add to that group next season as well. Gadsden, Estime, Fornes, and Cylla will need to step up as upperclassmen next year. Ty Taylor had a hugely disappointing season, I think he's going to transfer out. A lot of movement will happen over the next couple of months. I look forward to seeing what the staff can do during the spring signing period. Getting an experienced big should be the key priority at the moment.

He's already transferred once. You think he'll transfer to sit another year and then play the following year?

others have mentioned he likely could graduate with summer school making him eligible right away.

My thought process is that Ty Taylor should be on track to graduate by the summer, making him eligible immediately. His coach at Hargrave is now the HC at Eastern Kentucky, he also has connections to the staff at Arkansas State. He'd be able to find a mid-major home easily if he were to go the grad transfer route.

I'm hopeful that aside form the likely player shuffling, getting an experienced big man, there will be some coach shuffling too. Not CB, but just hopeful for some kind of a shake up.

I'm hopeful that aside form the likely player shuffling, getting an experienced big man, there will be some coach shuffling too. Not CB, but just hopeful for some kind of a shake up.

Agreed. While we have some good pieces, there are a lot of question marks going into this offseason... What will the staff look like next season, non-conference opponents (continue to make it tough or call up Claflin), who starts next season (3 & 5 positions should be open competitions). This thread might not be the best for discussing these matters though.

Imajae had an absolute dominant senior season. Can't wait to see him in the teal next season. Blue Edwards called Imajae the best player in school history. Just started a new one for updates. Feel free to use whatever you so desire. I do like our self-policing of this being reserved for recruiting updates/chat.
