RE: Breaking news
In their defense, they did give you a nice RTB lanyard to identify you as having some sort of super secret security clearance. That lanyard and badge probably cost $3. It's either a brilliant marketing tool or a total waste of money. If more than 5 people showed up for those practices it could add up into real money. But as Ernie said, it was pretty much the same 3 or 4 people who accepted "the privaledge" ..............

I'm sure they believe it's the former.

And they're keeping some CMU skunk out from stealing "secrets" that would swing the Big Game in Chimps' favor.

Those skunks "could" exist. Even Cubit closed practice the week of that game.

RE: Breaking news
I would say:
1) It's really not that hard to call ahead, but..
2) There should be a system in place where if you show up without calling ahead, there can be flexibility and perhaps even some kind of special consideration given -- depending on the circumstances -- that you're still allowed in for a period of time (whether you do or do not know the call-ahead policy).

Now that I have a kid, I can see it being a huge turn off if for some reason my plans changed for the day and I thought (as a father, and an alum) it'd be cool to swing by Waldo Stadium and take in a practice.

The press/media has to abide by the same rules actually, so at least it's consistent.

RE: Breaking news
Unless you're putting in The Annexation of Puerto Rico, Statue of Liberty Double Reverse Pass or changing defenses completely (unlikely and rarely works), the amount of film teams have on each other make "secrets" hard to keep.

More coaches' paranoia than anything to close practice. Injuries might be only useful information that could be gained.

Hypothetically, you could also see who is injured, not practicing, practicing with 1st team/2nd team, individual players practicing with other units, recruits that are visiting, etc.

If Joe Schmoe or a member of the media can pick up on those kinds of things, then so could anyone. Again, I'm not defending it, but at the same time I can understand it... however only to a certain extent.

Of course these things could happen. But a person who calls the night before could do the same thing. In terms of danger a wash.
