Watched the game on the internet for a couple of reasons....first time I saw a UT baseball game in ages and to try and judge the calibre of play in the MAC. Greatly disapponted on both counts! I did think freshman Montoya looked pretty good and he had a nice HR shot late in the game. Too many UT errors and the pitchers couldn't throw strikes. I turned the game off before it ended and watched the Arkansas/Creighton game on ESPN. Night and day difference in the quality of play! Too bad, we used have good teams!
When did Toledo, never even a MAC champion, ever have a good baseball team? We were only moderately bad a year or two ago when we made the finals and that's the best I can recall.
Had some decent years in the 70s around the Matuszek/Clarke years with good OOC results, but those never translated into MAC championships as I recall. But other than that, yeah never remember us being good at all.

RE: UT baseball 2015
Several Rockets earn conference recognition, including Freshman of the Year A. J. Montoya. Two Rockets made the MAC first team. Congratulations to all of them.
Conference tournament begins today. I might give some updates here, unless someone else does it. Or maybe we should start a new thread for the conference tournament.
Here's a link to the story about Rockets getting conference recognition.

RE: UT baseball 2015
UT had some really good teams between 73 and 77. Neil Mersch, Roger Coe, Len Matuszek, etc.
Whatever happened to UT's excellent catcher from about 5 years ago? I think he was drafted and played in the pros. What is his name? We also had an excellent SS just a few years ago. What's his status?
Is Cory Mee's job secure with our level of success over the last few years? Or is UT just satisfied to be competitive?
Comments guys?
Go Rockets!

RE: UT baseball 2015
The latest Rocket to spend time in the majors was Mitch Maier, who spent a few years in KC. Prior to that, there were a trio of pitchers from around the turn of the millenium - Griffiths, Stark & Wilkins - who all spent at least a little time in the majors.
There have been quite a few Rockets who spent a year or 10 toiling in the minors. I only know of 2 who are still actively playing. Aaron Dudley (probably the catcher you were referring to) playing in Normal, Illinois this season and Jared Hoying playing in Round Rock, Tx.
By far the most successful former Rocket is Scott Fletcher who played a decade or more in the majors. He was only at UT for a season back in the 70s. I'm not a big enough baseball fan to know what happened, but I am guessing he transferred somewhere? Matuszek also played a number of years in the majors, and Stan Clarke was around of a few seasons, although didn't pitch in too many games in the majors. Farther back there were some folks in the 50s. And there was Pinky Pittenger who played a number of seasons in the majors back in the 20s. He went to UT, but as far as I know didn't play baseball there.

Oh, and I forgot about Terrance Owens ... although I can't see that he is on an active roster anywhere, so I don't know what is up with him.

Fletcher went to a community college and to Georgia Southern in addition to UT.

Yeah, thanks. Looks like he played at GS after he played at UT, so again, must have transfered out for whatever reason.

Thanks Northcoast!
Ah yes... Stan Clarke the Woodward Wonderboy. I remember him. I think he played at UT from 79-81 or 82.
