Position Battles: Secondary
Western is going to have a difficult time replacing two all MAC performers in Donald Celiscar and Justin Currie. Despite Celiscar's ability, I actually think he is going to be easier to replace than Currie. Currie was the QB of that secondary, and his ability to think the game is going to be missed, and frankly, not replaced right away. There is potential with this group of freshmen, as well as some transfers to be the best secondary ever at Western Michigan in my opinion, but that might be a year or two down the road. Freshmen will definitely see time in this group.

Starters

CB: Ronald Zamort
FS: Deonte Brown
SS: Rontavious Atkins
CB: Ian Thomas
Nickel: Tyree Stone Davis

Backups

CB: Logan Oce
FS: Justin Tranquil
SS: Justin Spencer
CB: Asantay Brown
Nickel: Antoine Stone

It was good that Atkins came back. I've always kind of thought of him as the weak link out of the secondary last year, however, his experience is going to be important for this group. The big battle will be between Thomas, Stone-Davis, and Logan Oce for the second corner spot. Western's safeties need to be able to cover because of their blitz packages, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Asantay Brown, Deonte Brown, Tranquil, and Spencer all rotate until the staff is comfortable with who they got back there.

There is a lot of options, the good news is this group is super talented. Just young. And that is going to cause some growing pains, and some miscommunications.

Still on the team from what I understand. But still not making a dent in the rotation either.
