Position Battles: Running Back
Typically Western uses one running back sets. We all know who is going to be the primary ball carrier if he is healthy. I think Jarvion Franklin has earned that. However, hopefully a quality backup emerges to take some carries away.

Incoming freshmen Davon Tucker's tape is impressive, but despite the hype the staff gave him on signing day, I just don't see him taking significant carries.

Three other backs will be battling for playing time in Fabian Johnson, Leo Ekwoge, and Jamauri Bogan. I think the real battle is between Fabian Johnson and Bogan. Ekwoge is kind of redundant when you consider Franklin and Tucker. Johnson and Bogan kind of offer something different.

Winner: Franklin of course
Backup: Davon Tucker

3rd down back/pass catching back: Jamauri Bogan

I would like to see Franklin get a few less touches and give it to a speed back to keep him fresh though out the season. It will be interesting to see what happens with a full off season for the 3 freshmen RB's to see how much they can bulk up and lose some fat.

I think what will be equally interesting is seeing if Fleck and company even want a change of pace back from Franklin. Bogan might just give teams a different look because he is smaller, not that he brings something to the table that Tucker, Ekwoge, or Johnson can't.

I would like to see Franklin get less carries, mostly to get others involved that are explosive with the football as well. 20 touches a game for Franklin is enough.

Save Franklin for later in the game, so he can be the sledgehammer once the defense is already worn down!

Davon Tucker kind of looks like a bowling ball.

Fleck made some comments on signing day that he hoped Tucker could take some pressure off Franklin.

Can any of our RB's catch out of the backfield?

I would to see someone who can hit the homerun a few times! Taking it 80 yards would be great!

I think Levante Bellamy is that kind of guy.

RE: Position Battles: Running Back
I'm looking forward to seeing what Ekwoge and/or Bogan bring to the table. Between Franklin's breakout season and Tucker coming in, it's easy to overlook Ekwoge and Bogan. Throw in Fabian Johnson, and we potentially have a lot of depth at RB (though most of it, other than Franklin, is still unproven).

Tucker looks great, but we have built some depth in the backfield so I don't know that he's the #2 guy right away. I was really impressed with his tape though.

Doesn't it feel great to actually have so many options in the backfield?

Yes. Jarvion scored off a swing pass late in the season.

We also had one nice play where Terrell stood upright, looked to his left faked the throw to Jarvion, then handed the ball to the speed receiver on the reverse.

Yes, this dude has real speed. Looks like Seabury from the previous class.

Several of these 2015 guys can really fly. Fleck is going after pure athletes, no doubt about that.
