CMU and EMU
I thought EMUs newish coach was supposed to be a game changer. CMU out recruited EMU, without a coach.

They all bow down to WMU, but how sad for EMU, "a once proud program".

Next up, Ken Barna with his retort. 01-lauramac2

RE: CMU and EMU
Initially I thought EMU had some nice pieces, but I think some of them got poached. Not a great class for EMU.

CMU's 3 best recruits are also gone. Tyrone Miller went to Kansas, Alexx Zielinski signed with Miami, and now Rayshawn Wilborn (the only commit to not sign yesterday) is looking at other schools.

So both schools signed underwhelming classes. That's okay with me.

RE: CMU and EMU
Dear wmutkelaw and other Broncos,
Not so much a retort, but just to say I think Eastern picked up players that were needed where we had holes to fill. After talking with one of Eastern's assistants about early commits this past season of recruiting, he said, at first we were kind of startled by some of the recruits Central was getting early on. So we went back and looked at the players Central had verbals for, and we were not that impressed.
Now I realize that can be coaches speak, so to say, but hey it will show up on the field this fall. I think our team will be improved and win more games then people will expect. Not predicting any MAC championship, just improvement.

I would be disappointed if we lost Wilborn.

Miller was not in any way, shape or form one of our three best recruits.

247 lists him as an .835 composite and a 247 score of 86. Both of those are higher than anyone CMU signed.

Wilborn won't be signing with anyone - can't get academically eligible.

Miller was easily one of your best 3 recruits. I know for a fact the kid was the best corner at one of the UM camps, and Michigan at one point almost offered. WMU would have taken him in a heartbeat.

lol

Oh, you would have taken him in a heartbeat. That settles it then.

I could give two chits about the stars he has or his .866384+364+2-3 rating. Anyone who says Childress isn't in our top 3 is clueless.

Thanks.

I don't know what Childress brings in terms of football. He's likely going to be a WR. he was a QB at Baldwin. Supposedly his sport is basketball, but he hasn't exactly lit it up at Baldwin.

That said, his last minute commit to a program without a coach tells me he had no football offers (yes I know the Slappies claim lots of P5s), and this is a backup plan in case he doesn't get a solid bball offer.

It isn't me or stars, it's the college coaches that would tell you he was one of your best. I talk to them. Big Ten and MAC coaches alike. Young man was rated a 2 star by Rivals, that has nothing to do with it. I know it hurts to be jilted man, but the truth is he was one of your best recruits. It's okay, you got like 20 other future All MAC guys to beat us with.

Childress is coming from a Division 8 school. I don't care how good he looked at Baldwin...wait til he plays against some guys his own size.

RE: CMU and EMU
Actually Creighton's class was an improvement over last year's. Needed lots of depth in certain areas which he and his staff addressed.
When you start seeing schools like WMU, Ohio U, Iowa poaching EMU verbals you know that Creighton and his staff are on the right track in term of identifying talent. Those are baby steps in getting the program turned around.

Kudos to the guys who CMU recruited a majority stuck with the school even without a coach-showed lots of character and ethics in process that so often has none.

Hopefully the NCAA will institute an early signing process that will eliminate some of the unethical behavior in the recruiting process.

RE: CMU and EMU
I am all in favor of two signing periods for football. There is for basketball so I don't know why they cant do it for football. They should do one in August. One in February. The coaches don't want one in August, which is silly, because half of these classes are verballed before then anyway. The only thing is there should be a character clause of some sort, if someone signs in the early period and gets in legal trouble, the school should be able to back away and not have it count against them.

I agree, but there should be a similar clause in place for players in case of firings and/or NCAA violations, etc.

In 1983 Jim Harkema took over an EMU program that was much worse than the one Creighton inherited. So bad Eastern came THIS CLOSE to getting kicked out of the league.

His first year was 1-10, followed by 2-7-2, 4-7.

In his fourth year they went 6-5 and followed that up with a 10-2, MAC championship and Cal Bowl win season.

Improvement or as emu79 wrote, "baby steps" - and patience.
