RE: The AAC Needs Another Basketball Team!
WSU beat Loyola of Chicago by the usual wide MVC margin today in Chicago. They are now 23-4. I'd be amazed if they didn't win 30 games again this year and they should be in the Top 25 come Monday. They still have 4 MVC teams to go in the regular season, the MVC tourney and a certain post season invite. Odds are they will hit the 30 win threshold soon.

RE: The AAC Needs Another Basketball Team!
Learned a couple of other stats about WSU that are impressive from the TV feed. WSU winning margin at home is over 18 ppg and they have won 50 of their last 51 home contests - one of the best in the nation. But the most impressive stats have to do with attendance. Games that shouldn't hold much importance still sell out the place like the Loyola Chicago game Saturday. Just another sellout crowd. Impressive when you consider that its a lower tiered MVC opponent.

Another WSU blowout in the MVC - 73-44 versus Northern iowa in Wichta. WSU is now 25-4. They have now won 52 out of the last 53 games at home.

Wichita St is ranked #25 this week in the AP. Their record is 25-4. Cincinnati is also ranked at #15 (24-3) and SMU is ranked #17
(24-4). It would be nice to have all three in the same conference to enhance the strength of schedule.

WSU won today vs Missouri St in Springfield ------- 86 - 67. Record is now 27-4. Next will be the MVC tournament in St Louis which is referred to as "Arch Madness". If they win all three games there as they will be favored to do, their record will be 30-4 going into the NCAA tournament. They also should be ranked higher than #25 this week.

WSU's four losses have been to #10 Louisville, #24 Michigan St, Oklahoma St (probable tourney team) and MVC rival Illinois St on the road (also a probable NCAA team).

RE: The AAC Needs Another Basketball Team!
Wichita St won the MVC conference tournament today 81-69 and are the automatic bid for the MVC in the NCAA Tournament. Hopefully they will be in Tulsa at the BOK Center. Congratulations Shockers!

Now give Mike Aresco (AAC Commish) a call. Good luck in the BIG DANCE!

My guess is that WSU will be ranked within the top 20 (they were #21) this week. Probably a 5, 6 or 7 seed in the dance.

More Later.

RE: The AAC Needs Another Basketball Team!
WSU Athletic Resume' for Joining AAC

1. 30-4 MBB record in 2016-17

2. #20 ranking - AP

3. Won at least 30 games in 4 of last 5 years

4. 2 Final Fours - most recent in 2013

5. All 5 starters return next year and will obviously be favored to win their league again

6. Top 10 highest paid MBB coaches in america

7. Koch brothers are primary donors - net worth over $110 Billion

8. Sellout every basketball home game and have for years

9. Eight consecutive 25+game winning seasons in MBB

10. 1989 national baseball champions and runners up 3 other years

11. Average about 3,000 at home in baseball which would lead the AAC

12. Historically strong womens sports programs

13. Excellent Facilities - Koch Arena (10,500), Intrust Bank Arena (alternate MBB 15,000), Eck baseball Stadium (8,100)

14. Metro campus in largest city in their state

15. Perfect geographical fit in the western AAC

16. Loyal fanbase that travels extrememly well to away venues

17. 6 consecutive NCAA MBB tournaments

* Because the MVC was perceived to be so weak, there was discussion that the loser of Sundays game would be left out of the NCAA dance. That alone should be motivation for WSU to look for another conference.

RE: The AAC Needs Another Basketball Team!
There is a fanboard called - mvcfans.com - where the fans of that conference post their opinions and they now seem to be convinced that WSU will be gone in the very near future. They were trying to come up with ways that might lighten the loss and suggesting teams they could get as a replacement. But my suggestion of ORU was not discussed. If they are convinced WSU will be gone, I think it will definitely happen soon. They've heard the scuttlebutt too and understand whats occurring.

RE: The AAC Needs Another Basketball Team!
WSU got a #10 seed today in the dance. Its obvious the MVC and their strength as a conference is not well respected. So its also another reason to get the heck outa that dumpster-fire of a league (MVC). Also, Illinois St was not invited and was listed as the last team "out". But in reality, that could have been Wichita St at 30-4 if they'd lost the MVC title game in St Louis. Even Charles Barkley pointed that out and said so.

WSU shouldn't hold back and wait any longer and jump to a better conference, one that they want in and one that wants them. IMO

RE: The AAC Needs Another Basketball Team!
Congratulations to WSU (an NCAA Tournament 10th seed) for their opening win in the NCAA torunament in Indianapolis by beating Dayton (a 7 seed from the A-10) 64-58. That is proof that WSU was not a high enough seed and is an undervalued program because of its membership in the MVC. They need a better league.

RE: The AAC Needs Another Basketball Team!
Today WSU will play Kentucky in Indianapolis. A #10 seed vs a #2. Kentucky will be close to home of course, WSU far from it. This is another reason WSU being in the MVC and guaranteeing a lower seed than deserved is something that needs to be corrected with a league change.

WSU is now 31-4 with their win over Dayton yesterday. It would have been nice to have had two AAC teams in Tulsa (WSU and SMU) as well as the two Big12 teams we have now who are both still alive (KU and Baylor). But an SMU and WSU duo in Tulsa would have been fantastic!!

BTW the distance from Lexington (Kentucky) to Indianapolis is less than 200 miles versus the distance from Wichita (750 miles). A team with a record of 31-4 needs a better seed than #10.

Good luck to WSU.

RE: The AAC Needs Another Basketball Team!
WSU's season ended yesterday with a very competitive game against #2 seed Kentucky. But the good news for them is that they return virtually all their players next year and may very well be a preseason top 25 team.

The big question now is what will occur in the off season with AAC basketball/Olympic sports expansion and WSU. All the arrows point to them leaving the MVC and going someplace else. Stay tuned.

RE: The AAC Needs Another Basketball Team!
It looks like the WSU Athletic Dept is preparing for something bigger and better. They just hired a new WBB coach - Keitha Adams who was CUSA WBB coach of the year in 2016 at UTEP, and has several recent post season tournament appearances the last few years including the NCAA's.

Could this be the handwriting on the wall? Do they know something we don't right now? Are they strengthening the programs in anticipation of a new, better league? Stay tuned.

Thanks for the unending support of the idea of WSU joining the AAC. What a thread!

We're looking forward to renewing our conference rivalry with Tulsa...and for that matter, Cincy, Houston, and Memphis too. In many ways it feels like the Shockers are coming home to the AAC.

I have no doubts TU has been at the least a strong supporter of us joining, and perhaps even one of our strongest advocates during the process. Thanks to all you Tulsa fans who wanted to see this happen. See you on the court next year!!

RE: The AAC Needs Another Basketball Team!
Thanks Rocky. The best thing about this, other than its certainty, is that we'll be seeing a lot of each other. A guaranteed home and away in MBB, WBB and other Olympic sports. And since you are so close, it makes sense - at least to me - to have a Wichita State Honorary Football Home Game each year. That way you could make the short drive and watch a FB game between two of your conference brothers like us against Memphis or SMU. Maybe with discounted tickets and a tailgate area just for the Shockers. Then perhaps you could do the same with a baseball game in Wichita. A game with say, Houston or Memphis at Eck. That could make up for us not having baseball anymore and you not having FB anymore. Just an idea in my head. Something like that would signify a close traveling partnership. But of course when the game is on the line we are "friendly" enemies - if there is such a thing.

RE: The AAC Needs Another Basketball Team!
Its Finally Official.

WSU has officially moved from the MVC to the AAC in all sports. The vote was unanimous.

This is a great thing for the Shockers and the entire league as long as they begin playing with us in 2017-18. I think that will occur and they should be considered a top 20 or even top 10 team next year in MBB since they return all their contributing players. For TU it guarantees a home game against the Shockers every year (instead of every other year) from now on and provides a travel partner only 165 miles away as well as a conference (friendly) rival. This is a big deal for WSU, for the AAC, for TU and for both cities imo.

RE: The AAC Needs Another Basketball Team!
Talk about a dumpster-fire. I just happened on the MAC board and they now want to add Illinois St as a basketball member with the possibility of adding them in football later as a lure. So they take the MVC "also ran" in MBB and a D-IAA member in FB. So it appears the MVC is imploding wo their top dog, WSU, and will become the new Summit if all falls into place.

Also Missouri State will surely be looking to leave now as I posted earlier in this long, long, long thread. It will probably be to the SBC, MAC or Indepepndent in FB if they can get that done. Thats my calculated guess on the future.

And speaking of Summit, ORU has finally replaced Scott Sutton after years of mediocrity. His only resume' bullet point was playing and sometimes beating TU in their Super Bowl Game. They hadn't been in the dance since 2004 in that one bid league. I still say that ORU would be a good replacement for WSU in the MVC. Geography and facilites would be the best in the Valley, if there is an MVC after all this.
