RE: 1/28 AAC Games
Here's UCF's game preview/game notes for tonight's game:
http://www.ucfknights.com/sports/m-baskb...15aaa.html

Rematch game for the Knights, who fell in Philly to Temple 84-78 earlier in conf play.

UCF will obviously be without their leading scorer, Freshmen Guard BJ Taylor (concussion in game on Sunday), who lead UCF with 21 pts in that first game at Temple.

Here are some conf game stats for both teams:

Scoring:
Temple: 63.1 pts per game
UCF: 70

Defense:
Temple: 63.1
UCF: 76

FG%
Temple: 37.4%
UCF: 42.3%

3 pt % and baskets per game
Temple: 32.1% (7.4 baskets per game)
UCF: 37% (7.2)

FT %
Temple: 65%
UCF: 67%

I will be rooting for all the top teams to win to maximize the chances of multiple NCAA tourney bids. So go SMU, Temple, Memphis and Houston just because it is an OOC game.

This will be a tough game for UCF with our leading scorer out.

Great opportunity for others to step up.

Hope they take advantage of it but with just 8 scholarship players available tonight...UCF can't afford to even have one person in foul trouble tonight.

I believe Daiquan Walker is starting in place of Taylor tonight. It will be interesting to see how he handles it. My biggest concern with walker is he seems to make a lot of bad decisions, mostly unforced turnovers and bad shots.

Walker though has been instant offense, especially in conf games of late...as he is hitting 48% FG, 50% from downtown and 70% from FT.

While he does have 14 turnovers in 8 conf games....Goodwin has 26 turnovers in 8 conf games...and many of Goodwin's turnovers are near midcourt when he gets lazy with the ball...and most seem to go for an easy 2 pts for the opposing team.

Those turnovers have to be cleaned up, that's for sure.

Goodwin has done a pretty good job shooting from the field (46.9% FG, 41% for 3 pt range) but besides turnovers, Goodwin is shooting just 53% from the FT line.

Losing BJ's 5 FTA per game, easily leads the team in attempts in conf play (making 77.5%), someone else needs to step up. Maybe McBride who is shooting 86.7% from the line in conf play...but he didn't even get one attempt vs Cinci.

McBride will have to be very careful of getting into foul trouble tonight. Walker seems to always hit the big shot with the clock running down. Goodwin and Walker definitely need to work on turnovers. I'm not sure what Taylor turnover stats were but he just seems more comfortable with the ball in pressure situations.

That's why he is really the QB on the court...even if Goodwin is trying to play/share the point.

In 8 conf games...BJ has just 6 turnovers.

BJ's shooting % has dropped a lot in conf play (much tougher opponents, many times playing against bigger guards) as he is shooting 39% from the field but just 27.6% from downtown.

BJ is still the best "driver thru the lane" with the ball...and that helps him get to the FT line more than anyone else on the team.

Goodwin can drive the lane too...but I think his poor FT % keeps him from driving the lane even more.

Goodwin really needs to work on the FT shooting...as a guard HAS to shoot well from the line to be effective hitting the lane.
