RE: 2015 Recruiting Class Discussion
App will probably have the smallest class, because we don't have a lot of needs, OL and DL are the top priority position. Good news for App is the FAU OL recruit has decommitted from FAU, and word is he had a great trip to App over the weekend, don't know if he will sign with us, but its a step in the right direction. Im really curious to see the DL prospect we are getting from California, good story, we knew nothing about him, never recruited him, he just showed up at last years summer camp, dominated the competition, left with an offer after only 2 days, coaches we totally blown away with his talent, going to be great to see him wearing the black and gold.

I'm particularly interested to see how Georgia State does. They have a lot of holes to fill, so I'm really intrigued to see how they do filling those holes.

Since they seem to be the one in the conference that needs the most work, they are (to me) the most important to bring up the overall conference rating.

Here are all of the services for the Cajuns. We are holding some quiet commits right now, if they sign with us I would be shocked as they are currently soft verbals to more than one school. But they would make our class!

Troy had one in 2006 and one in 2007. The commit from South Alabama is not listed as a four star on any of the four major recruiting sites; rivals, scout, 247, and ESPN. The SBC has a lot of recruits just as good as the kid from South Alabama, in my opinion.

Yeah, we've had several as well. They usually don't work out.

they have had a couple guys decommit over the past couple weeks. Doesn't appear that they have a strong class as of now.

I guess South punished LB Doug Salter for visiting Troy too, right? At the end of the day, playing for Troy may not be such a bad thing. Talent is improving, and the coaching staff is great.

Well...he wasnt considering Troy until you guys hired his High School Coach. How very sneaky of you.

And we did drop him when he said he wanted to visit Troy,. We don't allow our commitments to visit other schools.

Not any of us that have any sense. Troy did indeed flip one from us, his HS coach is at Troy now as I understand, and there will naturally be an effort to keep kids from leaving AL and going to peer programs. We have done very well in AL in recent years and will continue to recruit the area but Troy will certainly be butting heads with us more in the future.

Yeah, we've had several as well. They usually don't work out.

Those two four stars listed above were a huge part of our title years. They certainly panned out for us. We haven't had as much luck with big time transfers in recent years though. They never seemed to materialize due to either lack of discipline or lack of inspiration from the coaching staff.

RE: 2015 Recruiting Class Discussion
We did not lose many players at all so this class is about rebuilding the interior DL while the young guys get stronger and getting some depth on the OL. To that end, it has been a very successful year with the mid-term JCs and the fall class. We have to get them to signing day but our staff targeted guys early and more or less wrapped up the class. Our offense has a chance to be very good next year.

I believe that. This coaching staff appears to be much more diligent than Blakeney's staff at keeping in state talent from crossing the border. They are really selling the "close to home" factor. We have several commits with offers from Louisville, Marshall, Lah Tech, Memphis, Western Kentucky, MTSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, App State, Georgia Southern, etc - programs that are considered better than Troy at this point.

The 4 stars we have signed typically didn't work out due to grades, behavior or just not living up to the rating. Like most, we won our titles with 2 stars who played like 4 stars.

I'm pretty happy with our recruiting class so far. I wish we didn't have to make hard decisions based on UAB kids counting towards the 25 though. It sucks for a lot of reasons, but mainly because kids are missing out on scholarships at both the HS level and the transfers from UAB.

This. Our recruiting class this year will not look good on paper because of the UAB transfers. Here is to hoping the JUCO & UAB route works.

JUCO can be a good way to quickly build, you get guys who can come in and make an immediate impact. .. . Good luck to you . . .

A 4 star who commits to a G5 school will get bumped down. A 3 star that commits to a big P5 will get bumped up to a 4 star. It's the way it goes. But that doesn't change the fact that he had offers from Georgia, Florida, Clemson, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Miami, South Carolina, NC State, Arizona State, California, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Duke, Purdue, Minnesota, Indiana, Washington, Memphis, WKU, Northern Illinois, Tulane, UAB, UCF, USM, and Louisiana Lafayette.

Great kid. There are a few in the SBC from ULL and Arkansas State that have offers as big and fancy as those. Not many but there are a few. So maybe not a lot like I suggested earlier.

The system is certainly flawed. I believe you can enter your own star rating if you manage your own 247 or rivals school site.

RE: 2015 Recruiting Class Discussion
I do wonder about these lists of other offers. Not just the completeness but accuracy too. A lot of them are basically reported by players, and I wonder if they confuse having scouts look at them versus actually giving them offers.

Georgia Southern has one commit with offers from Wisconsin and Louisville and another with an Auburn offer listed. Count me as skeptical that they actually do.

I think we're doing very well in recruiting though and if there was an accurate way to evaluate classes we would be higher than 80-something.

Al Pogue was on our staff last year and was with Auburn the two previous years. He hasn't been at Carver since 2010. I would hope that every team looked at recruiting connections when hiring.

I'm impersonating Seminole Indian for the day...just for kicks and giggles.

Obviously Tyus was not ninja enough to play for us. You have to have certain superhuman abilities to play here.

We're currently looking for the Incredible Hulk to play on defensive line.

I'ts a reactionary thing here. We've got an SEC school a few hours to our West that believes our commitment class is actually just their little recruiting board, and we have kids who mysteriously show up with offers from them two weeks before signing day without every being recruited previously.

We have to do whatever we can to keep kids from considering the major offer. We had a commitment last year who about threw a hissy fit when he told the coaches he was changing to a soft commit. Wanted to be able to visit Navy, while we held his spot for him. We pulled his offer and gave it someone who wanted to play here.
