That was the major item to come out of Winter Meetings. SEC ran a trial of this for a year, and it went well, and we are copying.

Goal is to increase the pace of play, so there are no major delays waiting on the ball to be spotted, more penalties get seen...etc.

Not sure what I think of this, more penalties isn't exactly what most fans of the game are looking for.

More chance for comical Sun Belt officiating errors! Just thing of how entertaining it will be to see 8 Sun Belt officials huddle up to figure out who needs to make what call.

Hell, go to 16 officials and add Karl Benson, or one of his family members to the crew as well, and we would revolutionize college football!

The Sun Belt already leads all conferences over the last 5 years with 13.928 penalties per conference game. 1.5 more penalties per game than our closest competitor and 3.3 more than the least flag-happy conference.

We need more? Really?

I thought this was one of the worst officiated years the SEC has ever had. Saturday Down South ran an article every week about how bad it was.

It was probably the worst officiated conference season I have ever witnessed in the SBC. But, believe it or not ... just by a few calls.

Just as adding more FBS teams dilutes the talent pool for players, adding teams all so dilutes the pool of quality officials. Add that to the increased speed in which the games are played and more and more mistakes are going to be made.

Guess which Conference gets assigned the most "diluted" officiating crews in FBS?

We've gotten the SEC's sloppy seconds in officials ever since Benson foolishly fired the head of officials after they disagreed too much over suspension lengths.

That's where we ditched any effort at quality. Now we are going to try to make up for it with quantity. Won't work.

8 officials? Can we dress 'em like the Keystone Cops?

I think our crews are pretty strong at referee, umpire and generally field judge. After that they ought to wear green and white stripes because they were struggling and look inexperienced. Way too many instances of guys out of position and throwing flags for fouls they shouldn't have seen because it wasn't their area of responsibility.

Biggest problem is communication they don't act confident in each other

The SLC is the training grounds for the B12. The SBC is the training ground for the SEC. I'm so tired of lousy officiating to the point of almost unbearable to watch.

Can anyone tell me if there is actually a conference with decent to good crews?

Good move. Less zones for officials to cover. SEC officials are easily the worst in the P5, so don't base the move on what they did.

Don't we share a pool of referees with the SEC now?
