Idaho fires DC
Idaho moved on from the DC of the past 2 years and replaced him with WSU's recently fired DC Mike Breske. I'm not sad to see Lee go, our D was horrible, never improved and never really tried anything new, but the new DC didn't impress in Pullman either. He brings a very aggressive style with a lot of blitzes and although it paid off in 2013 but not so much this year. Fortunately he'll probably find stopping SBC offenses a little easier than the PAC-12. Hopefully the revamping of the d will result in something resembling respectable instead of the awfulness we've seen over the last 15 years. Losing 3 defensive coaches might hurt our recruiting though.

They run the super air riad up there. I can tell you most leach/mumme air raid teams have horrible defenses. I know that's not a ringing endorsement for Troy's current coaching staff, but I remain optimistic. I believe they were #1 in the NCAA in tempo. When you run an offense that fast, your defense pays the price. Oregon has proved it can be done, but Washington State likely isn't three deep at every position on defense, and that's what you need to keep up with your own offense running a million miles an hour.
Guys like Leach, Mumme, and to some extent Fedora, are known for throwing all their scholarships into offensive personal and leaving their defense dry as a bone.

RE: Idaho fires DC
Seems like he has a lot of potential to be a good DC.
The top 8 teams in the PAC-12 this season, as a group, averaged 40.8 points per game. I don't care if you have the best DC in the nation, you're still going to have trouble stopping them from scoring.
Even Oregon's mighty defense gave up 31 points to Washington State, 31 to Arizona, 30 to UCLA, 41 to California, and 42 to Ohio State.
So I wouldn't worry too much about that DC. He seems to have had tremendous success at Montana and had some success during his first year at Washington State. I'd be willing to bet he turns out to be a good DC for you guys... might even help get you guys back to a bowl game.

The more I think about it the more I like the hire. The downside is we will be running the 3-4 now, and last year's LB corps was by far the worst I have seen in the last 10 years. We have 2 decent 300 lb DT's that could help them out, but I think we might be in a rough transition year. Hopefully the offense can pick up the slack.
