You can carry timeouts to the second half in basketball...You get five for the whole game. If you don't use one in the first half, you'll lose it for the second half, but otherwise they carry over.

RE: 1/17 AAC Games
Bottom line USF wasn't going to beat Tulsa today timeouts or no timeouts. Big problem was USF not able to score and Tulsa was hitting threes even with people covering them. There is only so much a coach can do lacking talent.

Ah...not in men's college basketball.
You get 5 timeouts in the 1st half...you get 4 timeouts in the 2nd half.

First of all, you don't have to respond like a complete prick. Posts like the above are why you have a poor reputation on the board.
Second, you're wrong. Don't speak authoritatively on things you don't know. Which is basketball. Maybe you know football better, I don't know.
Official NCAA Basketball Scoring Rules
Excerpt (Section 11, Article 4) (Summary on Page 8): For televised games, there will be four 30-second timeouts and one 60-second timeout granted at the start of the game for each team. For the second half, each team carries over any unused timeouts from the first half but no more than three 30-second timeouts each. The fourth is lost if it is not used in the 1st half.
Now go sit in the corner. You have a board time out.

He was trying to say that you get 5 timeouts in the first AND 4 in the second, hence his stand offish post. In reality you get a bank of 5 for the entire game and a MAX of 4 in the second half (the last is a use it or lose it in the first half). The reason for the fewer timeouts is because of the mandatory media timeouts. Even in non-televised games, I believe the rule is the same, the timeouts you get are just longer.
I would have just posted the rule but he was such a jerk about it, I got a little more creative...
