Nearly every defense in the AAC is bad, so that isn't much of an argument as to why Ward won't continue to succeed.
UCF didn't have a bad defense and in that game Ward was 10-17 for 116 yards 0tds 0ints and rushed for 9 yards on 9 attempts.
He also had a fumble lost.
he also only played 1.5 quarters, was almost strictly a WR the week before with almost no reps at practice ..and this being his first ever game in college with significant minutes as the #1 guy ...oh and we were down 2 scores when he was thrown in... and he almost won it if he secured the ball better

Yeah he led some pretty good drives that got you in field goal range I guess. I'd say your kicker got you back in the game as you never got to the end zone. Almost had a chance to win it but came up short. Its a game of inches. Ball security is pretty important for a QB especially one who likes to scramble
He could improve next year. Or he could regress like Godfrey did. Only time will tell.
If he was your backup QB then why did he not get any reps the week before? Was your coach that dumb that he didn't feel the need to plan to have a backup QB with some practice reps?

I think Cosh was our "official" backup that game but Levine went into full panic mode for the season and his job so hit went back to the well that is Greg Ward.....
He knew Ward could adapt and improvise. Cosh is/was a pocket passer.

ward and godfrey aren't alike besides being dual threats..
1 ward is faster than godfrey
2 ward is more elusive
godfrey was more like broadway (for uh guys) and a comparison for those that don't know broadway is denard knowles ..he is closer to pj walker than ward..above average speed and a strong arm..ward is faster than both has more shake and bake but less arm
bringing me to my first point of keeping ward in the pocket is easier said than done..thats why there were so many temple highlights they refused to blitzs kept a spy on him and had barely any coverage deep, daring him to pass but he still ran and got past those guys...
this clip exemplifies what im saying http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=12111810
point #2 ward is an underated passer
he had over 4000yds passing his senior year and 44 passing tds, the most in texas 4a history... lets not act like he cant sling te ball around, if you actually watch the reel i made you can see him looking to always run when he first took over but as the season went one as he got more comfortable with the college speed he started staying the pocket more and passsing..

he wasnt our backup qb..billy cosh was our back up qb..ward was our back up last year and used in wildcat situations but at the end of last year our coach decided ward was too good of an athletes just to e touching the ball 3-5 times a game ...so he moved him to wr for some reps and at the end of the season said he wanted to move Ward to WR only and have okorn the full starter before spring started...come fall okorn has a horrible start to the season, and he needed a spark so the game before ucf he readded ward just a wildcat only running the ball (to give defenses more to prepare for)..come the ucf game okorn is getting no yards, actually gave you guys 7 with the int in our redzone....he puts ward out their just for a drive/wildcat...it gained some yards so he just left him out their and let him run the regular offense.... the rest is history

I don't think any high school stats are relevant to the college game. Godfrey broke all kinds of records in dade county in Miami. Pete Dinovo broke records too but that obviously didn't translate to college.
Were gonna have to wait and see if Ward can make the jump to be a great college QB. I'm just betting he wont and this will fizzle out like Godfrey did at QB (Maybe ward is a little bit faster and more elusive) but everything else is identical. I could be wrong. I remember some Houston fan's with you included going on and on about how O'Korn would put up Heisman level numbers this year or something crazy like that.
Ward is gonna have to learn a new system and a new offense. It will be interesting to see what Herman can do with Ward. Time will tell..

Indeed.
Ward is a completely different species of animal from Godfrey. He's one of those players that evolves the understanding of that position.
Looking forward to the Senior chapter of the epic story he's been writing.

Ward is definitely a very special player, and one that every true college football fan should watch play every chance they get.
