I used to want to go to Jazz Fest, but honestly it doesn't seem as though jazz is really the focus. I did get to attend Satchmo Fest last August and other than the oppressive humidity (you'd think I'd be used to that being from FL, but I don't usually go outside much in August) it was totally awesome! It truly focused on the best era of jazz and one its best artists.

It hasn't been just about Jazz in ages - there are like 10 stages, and each one has a different genre that it focuses on. There's a jazz stage and a jazz tent, but there's so much more to music in New Orleans and Louisiana than just jazz. The gospel tent is one of my favorites, people love the fais-do-do stage that features Cajun music from southwestern Louisiana, and the bigger acts make it worth your while to buy a weekend pass.

Honestly to me it's more about hanging out with friends all day and enjoying awesome food and music at the same time.

I've been to Jazz Fest a handful of times. The key is to check out the small stages while the likes of Dave Matthews draw the yahoos to the main stage. The fest makes money off the mega acts, but the magic happens on the Fais Do Do Stage, Gospel Tent, etc.

That said, the French Quarter Fest is quickly becoming a new favorite......

Not a one to one comparison. Bonnaroo is more like Voodoo Fest in New Orleans, Halloween weekend.

I go see Galactic and Cowboy Mouth every time they are in town. Lots of other bands who put on good shows on that list.

Best performance I've ever seen was Carlos Santana at Jazz Fest close to 20 years ago. It was uplifting to say the least.

There are many great neighborhoods in N.O. Mid-City is one of them. We lived and raised our kids there until we outgrew our house. We wanted to stay in the neighborhood, but couldn't find anything suitable at the time. I think that Mid-City is even better now than it was then. My kids now share a shotgun double in the neighborhood. Convenient location, lots of good places to eat, good neighborhood bars (Try Finn McCool's on Banks Street), red streetcars. She's not wrong.

maybe I just didn't pay attention as much before but it feels like there are so many more music festivals these days and I love it. They start in March and go through the summer. AXS tv airs NO Jazz Fest and Coachella so even if you can't make it's nice to have it on in the background in HD. I enjoy all genres of music

Good to see another Tiger in NOLA...Mid-City is a good place to live. I used to live there when we first got married.
