Karl Hess has been known for his blatantly awful calls for years. I didn't think his audacity could get worse than when he ejected Chris Corchiani & Thomas Gugliotta from a homeNC State game a few years ago, but then last night happened:

Mit Shah is a good guy, avid fan, high $$ donor for Wake as well as being a member of the Board of Trustees. Karl Hess is a POS, plain & simple. I wish I could have faith that the ACC would censure/punish/fire him, but we all know that John Swofford & John Clougherty are spineless jellyfish.

A long-time ACC embarrassment.

They don't have conference-affiliated officials in basketball. There are several crews that do acc games that are awful. His is one.

Tim Higgins and Jim Burr say "hi"

Jamie Luckie is another ref who prefers to make up his own rules. And don't forget TV Teddy Valentine...the ref who never met a camera he didn't like.

The best refs are the ones who quietly call the game evenly & correctly so we don't know their names!

As we North Carolina based folks have tried to tell some of you at either end of the conference - **** with WF and you draw back a numb. No school has as much influence as compared to it's small size in another major conference.

I dont believe that Wake has any louder voice than anyone else in the Acc. This instance is not an example of Wakes influence. Hess would have been fired, as well he should be if he said this to any influential booster, even moreso a trustee of an ACC school. He should not have said this even if he was joking.

Hess is scheduled to work an American Athletic Conference game between Houston and Memphis on Sunday, however that will be the final game this season he works for that league, according to a source.

"It's a sad day and is devastating, but I'm responsible," referee Karl Hess said of the end of his time with the ACC.

Referees are independent contractors. Hess also works for other leagues, including the American, Big 12, Big East and SEC. He said he hasn't heard from any of them regarding his status.

I think this was just the case of Karl Hess already being on a very short leash (due to his past incidents at State) and he violated that on Sunday night.
