My guess temple, cincy, smu, and uconn get a bid. Uconn needs to hope for a strong Florida the rest of the year.

UConn is in fine shape if you look inside the numbers a little bit. And the committee does. UConn's BPI is at #42, which is 40 places better than its RPI. We know the committee looks at things like games in OT, buzzer beaters and players who were injured (which is what the BPI is for). UCLA's loss to Utah dings them hard in the BPI, but not so much in the RPI.

Interestingly, BPI still underweights Temple's last 5 games because their system sees the starters from the first 10 games as Temple's "top" players and assumes that they're playing without a top player. It will hit a point where Morgan will have top minutes and Temple's BPI should flip upwards significantly as the weights from the good and bad parts of the season are switched.

@ESPNLunardi: First full Bracketology scheduled for Monday, January 5. Happy New Year!

Iowa 28th, yeah right! RPI 62, only played 2 road games all year. Someone is drinking cool-aid. Resume is nowhere near as good as Temple's.

I have to agree. Iowa at 28th is not only way too high but shocking. Espin wants a piece of that Big10 contract (renewal coming up) that I guess they will do ANYTHING, and I mean anything to get it. What would be funny is if ESPN somehow got shut out by Fox or NBC and suddenly you wouldn't see the Big getting so much love from Espin. In fact, they wouldn't get a word of coverage at all. * Full disclosure: I don't respect ESPN and want bad things to happen to them.

ok, just so you know. RPI is what the committe goes by. BPI is a made up thing by ESPN to promote the conferences/schools they do business with. ESPN doesn't cover sports, they promote or destroy depending on who does or doesn't do business with them. At least we (AAC) are on ESPN's blind side and not their bad side which is fatal to a conference.

I agree; just look at Temple's BPI and you can see it makes no sense.
They have top 50 wins; others who are in the top 50 don't even have that.
TCU is like in the top 30 something and they played a tulane-like schedule, except for the Washington and St John's part of the TU schedule.

ESPN, whether intentional or not, will kill (or diminish) all but he Power 5. Exhibit A: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketba...ence-races

Its categorized as the Power 5 in hoops too and everyone else....

Team Rankings has 4 AAC teams in the tournament field at this time, smu 6 seed, Cincy 6 seed, UConn 10 seed, Temple 11 seed. I think this is more accurate for whats been done so far this season.

Sorry but SMU and Cincy are not six seeds. How is Temple an 11 seed after beating Kansas and Uconn? Are these the bizarro rankings?

While "Team Rankings" may be a basketball junkie's haven for numbers, I wasn't personally familiar with it at all. I just found it after laser used it as his reference for numbers.

I'm just now realizing that Team Rankings is actually one of the 38 different component ratings used for Massey.

Espn uses it also, it's listed on their website.

Massey has too many outliers for my liking. It's nice to look at but can't be taken as gospel IMO.
