Fleck's new contract
Hello everyone. I haven't posted on here in a while. I rarely do anyways, but just wanted to let you all know I still stop by. Thanks for the compliments on the coverage post. I would have loved to have been in Boise. It was disappointing, but it is what it is. Thanks to everyone who voiced support.

Just a heads up, I'll have a football column going up in the morning (Saturday).

I have obtained a copy of Fleck's new contract and I will have a story Monday. As you all have assumed, there is a major change to the buyout clause.

I will also be looking to amp up the hoops and hockey coverage now that football is done. I meant to write more off of Monday's game, but the flu bug snuck up and attacked me after the game. I'll spare you all the details, but it really knocked me down this week.

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

DD

RE: Fleck's new contract
They better have put in a "remove all the rtb stuff on your dime" clause for when he gets hired away.

The RTB stuff is a great life lesson. One that most of us should learn.

Always proud to be a Bronco, RTB

Key statement, nailed it on the head.

Quote:While WMU continues to try to establish its new era of football, fans' expectations have to be balanced with reality. That will be tested in 2015 as the Broncos should be a more talented team, but could finish with a worse record.

Most progressive, successful people live through the windshield, not "facing the past" as one of Fleck's RTB tenets preaches.

Yes, it is a great life lesson, but for the most part it is a marketing and branding tool created by this staff. If and when this staff leaves a variety of things could happen.

If Fleck left on good terms (winning record, program in good shape) and if a member of his current staff were appointed the new HC, then yes, the RTB stuff would live on.

If the circumstances were akin to when RR left WVA, where the relationship had soured, then the RTB stuff is done.

If it were a Darnell situation where the program went from very good to very bad, then the RTB stuff is done.

This is a coaches mantra and philosophy, and not a "tradition." When he leaves it could very well travel with him.

If he became a legend, and were here for decades, then it would likely become a tradition of the program, and certainly an identifiable part of WMU football.

So basically it's shelf life at WMU will be dictated by circumstances.

What's the irony?

Leaders of every organization try to establish their footprint on it. The next person in will try and do the same thing unless it is firmly entrenched and practically built into the organization.

Fleck's infamous line of, "We're not going to let the circumstance dictate our behavior."

I've been thinking about the Nekton Mentality as a Recruiter lately. Asking prospective candidates how they define "Good" and "stressful" days. How do they define excellence? Are they nekton or are they plankton?

At least recruit McMullen is getting them down:

I think this kid is coming. If they get Stinton I believe that will make eight three star recruits.

Buyout's public...

Quote:According to the contract, obtained by the Kalamazoo Gazette through the Freedom of Information Act, Fleck would owe the university $1 million if he terminated his contract before Nov. 30, 2015.

The buyout clause decreases by $200,000 if he leaves on or after Dec.1 each year after that through Nov. 30, 2019 – If Fleck terminated his contract between Dec. 1, 2018 and Nov. 30, 2019 he would owe WMU $200,000.

More details are covered in the article: http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/2...cks_n.html
