He got his salary largely due to media attention. You don't double a guys salary for going 8-5, but there's a fear he was going to leave because he's a media darling. He's a media darling because he's young and he knows how to talk. It's also why he got the WMU job and he's such a good recruiter. He's a used car salesman. He can sell anything to anyone. How good of a football coach he is remains to be seen. WMU lost the NIU game in large part because of his decision to go for it on 4th down and the completely vanilla playcalling WMU had in the 2nd half before they fell behind.
I've got nothin' on the NIU second half. I'm trying to block it out of my psyche. Not sure why we went so vanilla. I had a prior commitment so I couldn't watch the second half on TV, but just expected that "21" to increase when I'd check my phone, and it never did.
So if Fleck really is a snake oil salesman and you believe he'll slip into mediocrity, then you oughta be glad that we're "on the hook" with him for six years, and therefore you can remove WMU as a potential threat to your dominance.

Eh. By all accounts, WMU isn't really on the hook for much of his salary. As I've said in another thread, there was really no downside for WMU on his extension. It could blow up in your donors face, but that's not your problem.
It doesn't change the fact he doesn't deserve the money he is making, though.

RE: 800k a year for this garbage?
Air Force is a very good football team. We were paired with them because we proved we were the second best team in the MAC -- despite the Toledo fluke loss due to a missed extra point. IMO, if we had played a different opponent this would be a whole new conversation. When we played Rice a few years back in the Texas Bowl, it almost looked like we didn't belong there. I never got that vibe today. Fleck is building the foundation...

Remind me again why my OPINION that DOUBLING PJs salary was a completely unnecessary reaction to a nice runaround was a complete misstep was just me being negative.
He wasn't/isn't going anywhere at $400k. He has a 9-16 overall record. And he hasn't won ANYTHING. But the SPIN is how great and smart it was to bump his pay to $800G when even if he does win next year and a P5 wants him it won't keep him here.
I have 6 letters for you. S T U P I D.

False
He is a great salesman yes, and is getting paid for where the program is, not a few weeks ago or tonight, but where it is going and his ability to recruit. You win with athletes in college football. Pretty sure any coach in the MAC would have a nice season coaching Alabama. His ability to get players here, and where WMU thinks he is taking the program overall is the reason for the investment.
You win by athletes and coaching. Toledo has been "out recruiting" NIU for years now and can't beat them on the field. Recruiting is a big part of college sports, yes, but it's not the only part.
Actually those #1 Toledo Recruiting Classes are 2011, 2012, 2013. With the amount of redshirting UT does those classes should pay off this season and the next 3.

If true...
83, the more you do this, the more it also reflects poorly on your family friend Bill Cubit (indirectly). Just wondering if you understood this.
At first I wasn't sure. But it's apparent that Cubit's firing - and whatever circumstances happened around it - left you a WMU hater because of your personal connection with Bill. It's clearly not limited to just Dunn, KB and Fleck, as your "is he crying" list rips our fans, alumni, mascot, stadium, etc.
The Broncos' success was eating you up all season, but NIU and AFA gave you and other Cubit-connected folks something to cheer about. Congrats.
But now it's probably time to just take up residence at the Illinois boards and follow your friend's success there instead of trashing us after each loss.

I would expect it out of CMU. but not a United States military academy.. IT WAS A CLASSLESS ACT TWICE REPEATED THAT THE CAMERAS CAUGHT.
Well, I have to admit, when they put a camera man right behind him and showed him jumping up and down and rowing and rowing...........I can see how the opponent would be going WTF, and might mock it when the tide turned. I get the whole RTB thing, but during the game it could be toned down a notch.
It really doesn't bother me when Air Force/CMU/whoever does this to us. We reap what we sow. If we're going to stick oars all over our uniforms, our coach is going to do the motion on the sidelines, etc., then we have to man up and accept the bad with the good.
I wish I could be a bigger man like this. But it just BURNS me when other teams do it. At least the announcers called the player out on his technique.

be careful, the Fleck supporters are all butt hurt tonight.
I know I don't contribute much substance around here; never have. But you used to be a GREAT poster.
Yeah, yesterday SUCKED. But now's the time to say it...Keep rowing.
Team has to persevere. If the community can too...we will keep building. I know we have to simmer on the last 2 games until August, but there may be a benefit with the team having to as well. Especially with a good strength and conditioning program and a HELL OF AN OPPORTUNITY with MSU coming to town first. I'd love to see Jarvion come out of the tunnel 8/30/15 as Evil Jarvion--built like a machine, glowing, red eyes...striking.
I loved Fleck's comments about our college town, and how we as a community should be proud, and take RESPONSIBILITY for that.
