B1G BB has always been mid-major. They occasionally have a really good team, but that's the exception and not the rule.

RE: Texas Southern beating Michigan State
Ohio State was exposed today....totally overrated and I said that before the loss.
They have no inside game on offense and on defense their interior offense is swiss cheese. They can hit jumpers and three's...that's about it. They will be lucky to reach the Sweet 16 this year...at best. I'm thinking one and done.
Of course least they are most likely an ncaa lock...unlike UC.

In my lifetime I know IU has won three national championships and I believe Michigan state won it in the early 2000s... and technically Maryland won one, which is now considered a Big 10 team.

Michigan won 1 the year before the Fab 5 came to town.
All of this is > Big 12 that begins and ends with Kansas' few.
Or the Pac 12, which has 1 from UCLA and 1 from Arizona in the last 30 years.

The conference rarely has a national title good team, but often has multiple ones capable of tournament runs. Conference is usually deep, just not quite as strong at the top. That said, this looks like a down year (but it still won the Big Ten-ACC Challenge somehow).

Add this to Jackson State beating Tulane and UAPB beating Houston and it was a good week for the SWAC.

Michgan won in 89. IIRC the Fab 5 were 92 and 93.
But are people seriously arguing the quality of B1G basketball? Lots of Final 4s in recent years even though no title since 2000.

I'm not a B1G fan but saying it's 'mid major' is not accurate. It usually is pretty deep with physical teams.

Right. Like I said, they occasionally have really good teams. But I've been watching college BB since 1978 and so many of those years the B1G has received seven March Madness bids and six of those teams are bounced in the first round.
Since 1980, their March Madness record is a mile behind the (old) Big East and ACC.
