It is what it is, but I thought the going rate was in the $1.2-1.3m range nowadays. Not so?

It was originally 500k or so but it has been moved many times. I think at one time it was set for 2011. Last time it was moved is where this figure came from and that was like 2 years ago.
We got above 1 mill for going to alabama this year but that game was only scheduled a year ahead.

Gotcha, thanks.

When Hammond took the helm, he saw how bad of a hole our previous AD had put us in financially. Thus, Gen Hammond began talks with Nebraska to move the game to the Super Dome to hopefully create more revenue. The next negotiation was to have the game in Kansas City at Arrowhead (we would still have technically been the home team). Eventually we sold the game back to Nebraska and played there but drew a substantial paycheck.

Again, this is just from memory so I could be off or totally wrong.

Gene Carlise actually went to hammond with the idea and volunteered to pay all expenses involved with the dome. That way the school could sell all the seats it could and pocket the money. A group from KC approached us about moving the game. That was never agreed on. It was still set for the dome until Osborne came in and offered the 2.1 mill to move it to lincoln.

Okay, I miswrote what I meant, it was under consideration to be moved to KC (The offer was $2.1 M to play the game in KC, and then Nebraska upped it to $2.15M (or just a smidge higher).

And Stink, I think the MSU game is definitely going to be played in Hattiesburg. It's just too late on the scheduling timeline to make a change (IMO) this far in the game.

Again, the point is... You do not schedule G5 games in the Superdome or some other big-city stadium. You schedule games that will get you on the Major sports networks or in primetime showings.

Part of our problem that we are in now is because of the scheduling of whore games in the past. It does nothing to increase the fan base, and only gets you by for another year. One of the biggest mistakes in USM sports history was selling the Nebraska home game along with the taking of the Hawaii Bowl after massacring Houston for the C-USA Championship. Small time thinking and thought nothing of the fans when they were done. Thus the position we are in now.

I read somewhere that the last payday figure was 850K when the game was to be played in 2011. When it got bumped and now rescheduled the payday went to 950K so it did go up 100K from the last contracted date. Considering the minimal expenses (bus trip and not a flight) it will still be a good payday.

We've had Nebraska, A&M, Virginia Tech, Illinois, OK State, etc. at MM Roberts before, and while those games are cool, I fail to see how they boosted our status or our income in any major way.

I disagree with you in that I think we need four home games per year for a while (plus an occasional fifth against an in-state black college). We need money games again, and we need to perform in them. That's our identity.

You are now free to resume discussion of the 2012 Louisville game.

I think that would generate 30-35k in the Dome, more if both teams are good.

Our season ticket sales were larger in those years because of the interest they created.

Well, the "king" would have to be one of those people who talks about having a "mid major national championship series", but that doesn't matter.

What is the plan to get bigger and better that doesn't rely on small-time thinking? Giannini moved heaven and earth to get more home games and to get away from money games. He succeeded, and about 5 seconds later he was out on his ass and his successor was portraying him as fiscally irresponsible. So, is it fair to say that we tried to get away from small time thinking and failed? Or are we just taking a detour from our plan? You tell me. I don't have all the answers here, except to say that I don't care if we have 4 home games or 7, except as a means to an end.

lmao....well stated.....all the games you mentioned (I'll toss in Cal when they had A-A-ron and TCU when they had LT).....none were a sellout!

we need money any way we can get it....we sure aren't going to be able to raise ticket prices, garner more donations, create interest by hosting the likes of Troy, USA, ULM, ULL etc (no offense to those schools)

the mindset in this town is about as bass-ackwards as it gets....I'm almost immune at this point...

edit: our identity was that of the road warrior to back you....it's actually ironic when you look at the outcome of the 'big' names we've hosted...(I can't count Louisville since we at one time owned their arse before/while we were conference mates)

edit2: just for shites and gigs for the MEM fans.....we waxed BYU in my first attended game back in '75 at Jackson Memorial 42-14....was the first time those assmegs traveled east of the mississippi.....we gave a 'em a nice welcome party

edit3: hey nasty, who was the qb in that game (w/o having to google it)
