RE: New Contract
I dont know if this stuff is good for college football. It's kind of like working for Jerry Jones and playing for the Cowboys.

Who as a coach are you responsible to? The university, or the donors. Seems like that could get dicey. Would you want to coach at Oklahoma State and have to answer to T. Boon Pickins?

I'm sure this goes on everywhere in college sports, but like the BCS nonsense, it's part of what's wrecking college sports. Next we start paying the players, and then donors start funds to pay players more at some universities, and the vicious cycle just gets worse.

Good point....do the donors have a 575 thousand dollar a year right to influence the coach? Has WMU sold their soul on a hope that winning continues and the championships come.....Im guessing all programs do it to a greater or lesser degree ....Is it good for the University?

RE: New Contract
On the flip side we've had donors step up in a lot of sports. Baseball got money from a donor to upgrade Hymes, soccer got a sizable donation, hockey got a donation a few years back and bball got a large donation for their locker room. Obviously, Bill Brown and the Seeley's gave a bunch to football.

Perhaps there's a donor jealousy factor where donors see the Stykers have donated 150 million, and other donors say, "I want my name on something too."

Anyway, it's great that WMU has the folks with deep pockets. Well, got to go. I have to figure out how I'm going to pay the electric bill this month. 03-weeping

I know what you mean, CD. Every Friday when we pay our bills we just say thank you Jesus for getting us through another week. Still, I'm very grateful those who do have the $$$ are willing to invest it in supporting our coach.

RE: New Contract
Depends on your line of thinking. Maybe college football should pay players?

If he wins, he'll have nobody to worry about being responsible to.
