Perhaps, we could have a second nice season before our fickle love at first sight fanbase grouses about slighting a still relatively new coach. One who we should be glad has shown great promise.

ONE nice season. Here is hoping to a second...and he was just rewarded with a hefty raise.

If Pastner gets to the sweet sixteen this year, the refrain will change to "well but he's only been once in 6 years and never been to the E8!" -- as evidence for non coaching ability.

S16 still might not save him if the rumors of transfers is true.

What are these rumors you speak of?

While I won't stoop to your low level of petty name calling I am at every home game supporting the team. Unlike you. All you have is this message board to call people out that you don't even know.

Hypocrite bashes our basketball coach over and over and over and calls him a clown, in a football thread no less; and is now all upset at being called a loser.

You're not smart enough to know if I'm upset. Not smart enough to know our basketball coach isn't getting the job done. Not smart enough to move from Canuckland.

But smart enough to call avid fans who support the team, not the coach, a loser.

I was a fan of the team long before you and he came here and with the good Lord willing I'll be a fan long after he's gone.

Have a nice day.

Buddy, you're the one that called Pastner a clown and then got all offended when I called a group of people, losers. Talk about not very smart.

Wrong again. I never got offended. That's something you have concocted in you little mind. Stick to hockey if you understand it. You don't know squat about Memphis basketball.

RE: A Sense Of Scale...
Here's the thing, if a high level P5 schools wants JF & he wants to go, $2M even $2.5M isn't going to keep him, even with a big buyout - SEE CSU & Mcllwain. Mcllwain is even paying some of his buyout to leave for UF. So JF's salary is much more in line with comparables than JP's ridiculous salary. And look at where that has us, we have a BB coach many would like to get rid of, yet no other schools would pay him even close to that amount. My initial thought was that JF's new contract seems a LITTLE low but given the assistants increased pool & the bonus structure, it seems pretty reasonable. It is certainly requisite with the Memphis FB program status & rewards his performance at the same time. If we get a B12 invite, then pay JF B12 money - and we would. Now what I'd love to see right now is, give JF another $300-400K out of JP's salary & they would both be about right.

How bout lets just say kudos to Tom Bowen, Dr Rudd and whoever is writing the check and just be happy? And to Coach Fuente to not having an over inflated ego. Some of you just gotta gripe about something.

Without even knowing a thing...here are issues that arise with EVERY school that will be particular to this school next year:

Kids who are starters don't like moving to the bench.
Kids who are high level recruits don't like waiting their turn. Especially if their dad is a coach and he believes his kids are the real deal.
Kids who are not starting and were high level recruits do not like coming off the bench and probably don't like the idea that more high level recruits (playing the same spots) will be coming in.
Kids who have spent three years at a place like to consider their options as a free agent.

I've been saying it all season.
But there are none as blind as those who will not see.

That's okay though!
My heart lies with this team and this coach and we will achieve all our goals!

Over $2 million would have shown a commitment and would have encouraged loyalty. $1.4 million is the opposite of loyalty and encourages flight. We are underpaying him next year, after we ended up grossly underpaying him this year.

Fuente not only saved the football program; he is basically the only reason why we are probably going to get into the Big 12. Technically, everything else is in place, but none of it would have meant a thing if we had just finished off another 3 win season.

Seems like a kick in the teeth, if you ask me.

Memphis is happy, Fuente is happy, I 'm happy- And this BS thread is nothing more than an very transparent attempt to create dissension and take the focus off JP and his inept ability as a D1 basketball coach.

On a serious note, he had a great year and got a huge raise. He has another good year and gets another raise is my guess.

All good, no negatives to see here 03-wink

You'll never hear ME complain about the crowd since I'm always IN the crowd. We might be few currently but we are PROUD and LOYAL

I wish you'd trying joining the ranks of positive PAULs because we're a lot happier and have fun at games. Heck you might even win the air guitar contest if you put your mind to it!!!!!
