My one knock on Kuglar is his offense.

RE: New Mexico Bowl
I changed the channel after the last UState score. I just couldn't watch a repeat of old UTEP days. It was if there were all the old coaches coaching the team and getting the same results. I don't blame the team at all, I blame the OC, the holder, and our QB who can't throw a football into the ocean (I've got to hand it to you you really try Showers). I would kill for their 4 string QB, he's better than our first stringer. Maybe since he knows that he's the fourth string QB and the odds are against him he'll be looking for another school. Hey, I can wish it's Christmas season.

Now I can only hope that Kug can go look for the help he needs, like another OC.

So who is the heir-apparent to Showers for next year, and can he hit the ocean?

Best bet is Mack Leftwich unless another QB recruit comes in.

Mack Leftwich is one of the coaches son. He played a bit last year when Showers was hurt but I wasn't really impressed with him. I think him playing had something to do with him being related to the staff. We really don't know who the leading candidate is as coach Kugs keeps everything a secret (he's probably as unsure as anyone who's a fan).

Let's give a little credit to coach Kugler for playing who he thinks can win. I think he has the best interest of the team in mind and playing Leftwich (PA player of the year as a senior in HS) and/or Simpson last year was forced on him. No choices and no chance last year. We were especially horrible on D last year.

Metz has been a greyshirt and a redshirt and has received tons of praise from Kugler this year for his work ethic and ability as the scout team qb. Spring ball will be interesting with Metz, Leftwich (redshirt this year) and Simpson battling it out. McEachern may be in the battle too.

I think you guys have a good coach. Nothing wrong with keeping things close to the vest.
