Its ridiculous.

Whatever you want to believe

Btw it is Memphis and Cincy as the front runners. It's really simple. They are trying to bridge West Virginia to the Big 12 if their 10 team layout fails. They will still make more money from their 2 adds.

People are just looking for any sliver of hope they can find that promotes their cause or tears down a competitors cause.

Why go after UC and Memphis in your comment? The name of the school means nothing, directional or city. It is the direction the school is heading and national recognition. UC is heading up and has national recognition...

Meh, he's just the guy who thinks changing the name of the University solves all marketing and perception issues. Basicallyy thinks that University of Orlando or Florida Technological University would make the program more marketable.

Exactly. Being named after a city has done wonders for Houston, UC, Memphis and San Diego States chances of getting into a P5 conference.

They're plenty interested. UCF simply doesn't conduct business in public like Cincy and Memphis. We didn't do it around the Big East expansion either, unlike every other prospective member.

Oh no, and I thought our invite was in the mail!

Seriously though... Was there any 'media smoke' about Pitt and Cuse? Rutgers and Maryland? IF it happens, you'll wake up one day and be surprised... but I bet nothing happens for the next few years. If we lose a few teams we reload and keep playing ball. As we all know, there are too many power teams NOT in power conferences. So we at the AAC, MWC level will still be playing ball.

It's nice to be getting mentions as candidates, but I would not (no matter where I went to school) pin my happiness on the outcome to this situation.

KEEP BUILDING UP THE AMERICAN!

RE: USF and UCF will NOT be invited to the P5 any time soon....
I don't think that The Big 12 is expanding. BYU would be the only super viable option if they played sports on Sunday. Cincy would be fairly viable. UConn is just too far away. Memphis has some upside if there football continues to excel...but the Tigers are not there yet.

Having said all of this. If USF was winning and pulling in big crowds like they used to the combo of UCF and USF and their huge combined TV market would have some real appeal to a conference with it's own TV network. Unfortunately, USF has fallen on hard times, and none of the conferences with their own TV network are in the market for new additions.

I forget where I saw the stat, but I think there are only 2 P5 Universities less than 100 years old.

If we got by this metric USF will be added in 2056 and UCF will be added in 2063.

Actually Steve, I think Orlando is still too regional. FTU would be ideal.

Thanks for posting the link to FIT, not sure what that has to do with FTU.

These are dumb statements.

"Getting in" has nothing to do with 99.9% of any "brand" that's in the other conferences... BECAUSE MOST OF THOSE MEMBERS WERE LONGSTANDING MEMBERS FROM WELL BEFORE "P5" WAS A TERM.

Houston and SMU have already been in establishment conferences. So have UCONN, USF, and Cincinnati.

I heard a sportscaster make a dumb statement not long ago that ANDRE WARE was the last one in a non-P5 conference to win the Heisman Trophy.

That's BULLSH!T. Ware was in the same conference as Texas, Texas A&M, Arkansas, etc, when he won his Heisman.

Houston's not a "small school" and neither are any of the programs in this conference, no matter what a seal of approval says. It's just a twisted narrative that's being rewritten every few years, that is being sold to the public with every broadcast.

To pretend that's the way it always was, and that it wont change again in another few years in dumb and naive.

I wonder in 49 years, if football will still be played, or if it will be viewed as one of those stupid risks we used to take in the "old days". Along with walking up stairs and driving cars.

One year and Memphis thinks they are a given.... Congrats on the Championship (where in a bad year for us we still beat you.....).

Memphis is on the same level is everyone else in the AAC stop acting like you are an "insider" and you are just waiting to spring the invite on the rest of us.

If "ONE" year meant everything we would have been invited after 2011.

Memphis hasn't been public about their intentions. Cincy can be because it is an guarantee. If you reference that Nashville radio host it isn't a pro memphis city. It benefits them in no way pumping up Memphis.

I wasn't going after UC and Memphis, Sensitive Suzy. My point was that it doesn't matter what the name of the school is. Being the University of Orlando wouldn't make us any more attractive.

That is what the reports seem to indicate with what the Big 12 is thinking if they have to expand. Cincy and Memphis are the only candidate that make that bridge. The Big 12 could add BYU, UCF, or USF if they like the island model though.
