Ole Miss LB coach to USF
Tom Allen the Ole Miss LB and special teams coach is the new DC at USF.

I like it, he has ties to the area, is a good recruiter and the Ole Miss defense has been solid.

USF football was built around aggressive attacking defense. That has been missing since Leavitt was let go. Tom Allen seems to be cut from the cloth with his high energy, defensive philosophies and big conference background.

Great hire IMO, especially when you consider the circumstances of Taggart needing a big year next season. This is the kind of hire that I wish we would have made in the first place two years ago. Mark Harlan is a difference making Athletic Director.

BTW....we supposedly are closing in on a OC by the end of the week as there have been a couple interviews today.

Yes going back to an aggressive defensive style will be a welcome sight

I am hoping this works. If he is able ot execute the same style of defense, then were in good shape... but he wasnt the DC there, so how much credit he gets, we dont know.... I do like their style though. With our talent and speed, it will fit that defense way better then Bresnahans 3-4, bend/dont break crap.

Id rather get up in someone grill and lay the wood then to keep losing the way we have.

I just saw this post. Tom Allen was the LB's coach at ASU in 2011, and he was one of the nicest most personable coaches ever to come here. He wasn't the DC because Dave Wommack had the job, but he was in charge of everything else, and was very good at what he did. Had one of the best LB Corps in our history that year.

He's ready to be a Coordinator, and will do very well at USF.

Is this all Taggart? Or did Harlan play a role in this hire?

This hire has Harlan's fingerprints all over it. I hope it pans out well for all involved. 04-cheers
