Aresco has clearly said the exit fee's are there to bridge the gap to the new TV contract.
The next TV deal will tell us everything. I would enter the negotiations by asking for $7M, being laughed at, and then gladly accepting $4M. If the conference can fetch Big East TV money, then UConn doesn't need to leave for the time being. If the money stays where it is, then you can beat your arse that FOX makes a midnight call to snap up an excellent basketball brand.
I think future moves should be less about the per-team payout - which isn't much to lose, really - and more about snapping up remaining good properties in college athletics (read: basketball).
I actually think that the AAC should look to rival the Big East on the basketball front - because that's where the national attention will come from. I really don't think that the "system" wants to see AAC football grow - and they will do everything in their power to marginalize it and destroy it once it gets close.
I love college football, but it's a closed shop at this point (which is really really sad). The TV deal isn't enough to warrant all-out investment in all fronts as there is no return on the money - you're just burying yourself in debt.
Forgive me for sounding negative, but I see a day in the future in which the G5 just opt to field "skeleton shift" football teams while they instead focus on hoops (which they have a lot of promise in!).
What sucks is that about 1/3 of the G5 have REALLY been investing in their football programs - and sadly they all might get buried as a result of it.

I've got to at that so I don't
At the risk of turning this into another realignment thread... How can the B12 look at those numbers, knowing they probably would have been in the ACCs boat with a championship game, and say adding 2 teams doesn't make sense? Hell add Southern Alabama and Buffalo. The lack of a championship game cost them $25.5m + the TV contract for the CCG (let's say $6m). That's $31.5m!
Ya they dumb. They also need to get rid of that stoopid LHN and replace it with a Big 12 Network.
