Just my opinion that if you were invited into a conference but don't sponsor some particular sport (not just football) you should still get a shot at any Cup; which is there to declare the most, overall, well rounded athletic institution.

The SoCon did change this year to a new method. And I like it.

Each sport is equal weight. I like that.

Each sport has 10 points for winning and around 1 point for losing. By using shares the points earned for each place changes for each sport but it keeps last place from earning lots of points by taking last place in a sport with only a percentage of schools competing in that sport. Middle of the pack earns 5 points regardless if 10 schools or 6 schools compete in that sport. I like that.

Schools only use the top 7 sports for each cup. That gives a chance for a school to have a few bad sports or just not sponsor a sport or two. I have mixed feelings about this. It still is open to those saying it rewards those that sponsor more sports as they have more to drop and ignore. If the SB when this route of letting schools drop the worse sports from the Bubas numbers would a school get to drop how many? Could a school drop 1 from men's and one from women's or 2 from women and none from men's sports?

Would make more sense to me to award points based on the amount of teams participating. If you only have five teams in a sport the maximum award is five point. JMO

It effectively makes a sport with less teams not count as much and I don't think that is fair, but I can see why someone would propose and use that. What you like is what the SB does so you are in good company.
