C-USA Championship Viewing on the Rise
The C-USA Championship Game between LA Tech and Marshall viewership hit a 3-year high! TV ratings were up 67% over 2013 Rice-Marshall and 25% higher than 2012 UCF-Tulsa. The LA Tech at Marshall C-USA Championship Game was the second most watched program on ESPN2 that week, trailing only Michigan State- ND hoops game.

Go C-USA!!!

If ODU ever makes it, I would expect a record breaking performance. ODUFB games do really well in our market (beat the World Series) and we have a bunch of basketball rivals in the mid atlantic that would watch just to hope we lose.

Excellent. Another piece of ammo for the tv negotiations which are going on now thru the end of next year, unless an agreement is reached before then.

It was on CBS. Broadcast channels are always going to skew higher than cable.

And a night game, where ours was early in the day.

I am pretty sure that WKU vs. Marshall was the highest rated G5 vs. G5 on FS1 this past season as well.

RE: C-USA Championship Viewing on the Rise
FS1 claims to be the fastest growing cable channel, with a 25% year over year increase in ratings (with most gains made by Big 12 football)... FS1's daily ratings when you average all the shows and live sports together is still averaging only HALF of NBCSN's daily audience, which places it NOWHERE in the realm of ESPN. FS1 doesn't even match ESPNU's daily numbers while n 25-million more households than the U. So a lot of FS1 programs/games get absolutely DISMAL ratings.

I like seeing gains in the ratings, but its still disappointing that in the ratings listed above, the AAC regular season game that went head-to-head with the CUSA championship game at noon bettered it by roughly 29%.

Does espn2 vs espn account for most or all of that difference? I think its going to be interesting to hear some leaks about who might be interested in getting portions of the C-USA tv deal this time around. If espn, fox, cbssn all bid on a part of our schedule, then we may do alright. Having 2, 3 or more tv partners might be a good thing and then the last tier can go to ASN, which worked out well in distribution of games this season.

FS1 needs some marquee match-ups to get people to figure out where they are, however, with ESPN monopolizing all the bowls it's going to be an uphill battle for them.

That would be my guess. We walked into Fuddrucker's at Meyer Park in Houston, and none of the televisions had the C-USA championship or the Houston-Cincinnati game. (One of the televisions did have SMU-Connecticut.) We asked for the Marshall-Louisiana Tech game, and Fuddrucker's obliged. No one in Fuddrucker's asked for UH that day.

My guess is the ratings reflect people who tune into ESPN, not those that wanted to see Houston-Cincinnati.

I believe the previous two years, the CUSA championship game was head-to-head against the Army-Navy game, whereas this year Army-Navy was moved back a week later. I suspect that difference probably accounts for a large part of the boost in the ratings this year.

Army-Navy has been the weekend after the championship games since 2009.

I think a lot of people tuned in when they heard that undefeated Marshall was getting their ass handed to them by mediocre (record-wise this year, not as a program) WKU. It's national interest when an eleven win, undefeated team gets dethroned, especially by an underdog on paper.

What the hell are you talking about? We didn't play WKU this year in football. The game was scheduled but later cancelled for some unknown reason. 01-wingedeagle

Bottom line is you beat the Mac and Sunbelt champ game. Were behind MWC champ game and 2 regular season AAC games. TV pecking order is as normal, a match for conf pecking order.

Bottom line was that he said our viewing was on the rise, not that it was better than anyone else's.

Just above the bottom line, you're on the wrong board, ********.

Fox had an opportunity to get in the Bowl game racket and they balked. It may have cost them everything.
