While school is out, we have NC A&T, Georgia State, UMES, W&M, and Mt St Mary's all over the holidays. W&M will draw ok, but the rest will bring us down. If we continue to take care of business, attendance will go up again in conference. My guess is 6,500 at year end. We were averaging over 7,500 when we were a top 50 team in the CAA, but there were a lot of regional rivalries.
OMG. We have three home games in a row in which the school name contains "Mary". Can that be good for attendance?
The Tribe always draw pretty well. It won't be close to a sell out on the Monday before Christmas, but I don't think it will hurt the average either. I just hope word gets out that Georgia State is actually good and that one draws a decent crowd.

Haha yea the UofL game is sold out, how come I forgot about that game?....Half the arena maybe UofL fans but will be a sellout guarantee..

RE: Basketball Attendance
We had Penn astate and South Carolina at home so far. Our attendance has been abysmal compared to just a few ears ago. I am guilty of it as well. No one wants to go see a loser, especially when its basketball at a football school.
I went to every game for years then moved away and moved back last year, just haven't been able to go this season to any games. I will probably catch some conference games. But i remember just maybe 3 or 4 years ago we would easily have 7 or 8k at games. Place was rockin.

I feel your pain. USA's OOC home schedule is the worst I've ever seen. I'll see your Alice Lloyd and raise you a "Carroll". Here is our complete home OOC schedule... Don't barf...
Carroll (NAIA)
Spring Hill (NAIA)
Middle Tennessee
Howard
NJIT (hey, they beat Michigan!)
Obviously we won't have strong attendance with that schedule. We are averaging 1,522 through the first 3 home games.
Jesus, that's terrible. I'm sorry.
I shouldn't complain about Charlotte's schedule, ever.
Unfortunately, while we have a great OOC schedule this season, we don't get much at home:
Miami
College of Charleston
Appalachian State
NC A&T
Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Penn State, South Carolina, other Miami game, George Washington, and Davidson are all away or neutral.

At least we get a return game from GTown (in TWC Arena).
Our game with GT is a return game after they were in Halton last year.
Next's year's SOS should be tough though because of the Atlantis tournament. It may be the most stacked field Atlantis has ever had. Win or lose, we're playing big time opponents in the 2nd and 3rd games.

RE: Basketball Attendance
That game against Incarnate Word only brought in 6500 so it took away from the figure. The Arizona game is already sold out I hear so at 12,222 it should bring it up a little. There's still a lot of work for some schools to bring up their attendance, it's a little embarrassing. They look like our womens basketball att. figures. and less.
You can tell ODU and Charlotte are basketball schools because they have good attendance figures.

ODU is now a football school with a lot of basketball holdovers. I worry about the long-term future of ODU basketball in this conference, however. Unless we are playing VCU, the students don't attend the games, and the few that are there don't get into it. Once of the announcers, I forget what game, called us a wine and cheese crowd. So yeah, our attendance is solid, especially considering our previous 2 year run and the turmoil within it, but we don't seem to be generating many new fans.

If you guys stay in contention for the conference title for a few years in a row, I think you'll be fine. Just keep scheduling VCU, Mason, and the other old CAA rivals OOC and make sure you get at least 1 at home every year.

Tech's numbers should go up. 4 of our 5 games were between the Friday before and after thanksgiving. The one that wasn't had over 4,000 in attendance.

Not sure what to expect with MT's numbers.
They'll probably go down as the team starts to stink more and more.
But if it's ladies hoops, that's our strong point. Averaging 5,658 after 4 home games for the women's team.

Any school that has a decent football program is a football school with the exception of Duke.

As one who very much prefers bb to fb, I would not have agreed with that statement.... Until I saw for myself how much more a fb program, even a fledgling one, does for the school and community at large.
I still very much prefer bb as a spectator. But there is no comparison at all between the two sports when it comes to school and community impact.

Rice had 4,504 in a 72-61 win vs St. Thomas (TX) today. Rice had a 33-point lead at one point, before rotating in different players.

Whatever it takes 07. No one knew that. You could bring in the folks from the senior citizen centers and it would still be butts in seats.

I've seen several schools do that in men's and women's games. Makes a great atmosphere. Kids sure can cheer loudly.
