This statement was sent out to Blazer Boosters in our weekly email. I couldn't copy and paste it so I typed it out below. Any typos and/or mistakes are mine. Just my opinion, but I think that it strikes the right tone.

Statement from Interim Director of Athletic
Shannon James Ealy

These have been difficult times for all of us. We are especially sensitive to all of our student athletes and coaches as they endure these trying circumstances. We understand the disappointment regarding the recent decision to discontinue our football, bowling and rifle programs and the hurt felt by everyone who believed in UAB Athletics and share that pain with you.

Our Blazer family is committed to working hard and to do everything we can to ensure that we become even stronger. We are determined to be resilient and to be the very best that we can be while pursuing excellence. We will do our best to honor and respect those founding fathers and individuals who came before us to serve and build this athletics program and those who so proudly wear the green and gold.

There is much work to be done. In the meantime, please know that your support of the Blazers is ever so valued. Go Blazers!

I JUST respond that I will never put a foot at UAB and I they will never get any money from us

I've heard virtually no one give a ringing endorsement of Watts. Even the BBA seems to not support the decision but overall want to show they support UAB and want to continue to build a relationship with UAB and Watts.

This is all political. We can all see that. People that question this decision even are too afraid to come out with too tough of a stance. They know the BOT is watching and will shut down business partnerships and fire folks that get in their way.

Cut the guy some slack. Do you expect him to be named interim and sign the email #FreeUAB #FireRayWatts? He is in an extremely difficult situation and he has done nothing to demonstrate that he was involved in the shutting down of the program. He wrote me two personal emails dealing with my concerns/complaints so it is hard for me to kick him when he has responded to me - much more than Mackin ever did.

I got it.

I wrote a personal e-mail to him and expressed my support for he and Brad and at the same time delivered a message of NOT ANOTHER DIME until football is restored.

I take no issue with the e-mal. I think a lot of Shannon and know where his heart is. It should not be questioned IMHO.

Unlike a lot of the other emails, this one seemed legit.

I will withhold judgement for right now on him.

I'm disappointed that this is the first statement I have received from UAB regarding this tragedy. I may not donate a lot, but I am a booster, am a season ticket holder for football, and have a lifetime membership in the NAS, but there's not been a single e-mail prior to this about this situation (other than a response to an e-mail I sent to them). You would think that even a quick acknowledgement would be needed, even if you weren't prepared to do a full statement.

I also have a lifetime NAS membership, though I emailed and requested it be canceled, and a refund issued. I doubt that will happen.

Well it looks like we're safe from being blocked for a bowl internally...
