UAB got bent worse than the SMU death penalty
At least SMU got to come back...
There's no coming back from this for UAB. Restarting a football program, once you are out of the FBS umbrella, is a million-to-one shot. Very few are able to navigate that road. UTSA and UNCC were very special cases due to a glitch in realignment.
UAB fans need to be hoping that CUSA makes an exception to keep the rest of their sports, and that some very influential people start kicking off, to be replaced by progressives that understand the role football plays in setting the table for your University as a Nationally respected institution providing the FULL college experience.
Today, the world feels for UAB because they have been turned into a gelding.

ESPN is acting like this was UAB's choice.

And anyone taking perverse pleasure or thinking that this is a chance to move to a different conference is really missing the point. UAB's situation was unique, but it doesn't mean that it couldn't happen to other schools for different reasons. This wasn't good for any one in the G5. Or any potential move up in FCS.

That's because ESPN doesn't want the SEC or BAMA to look bad.

And UAB didn't deserve it. At least SMU got screwed because we broke tons of rules. UAB's only crime was daring to field their own program

President Watts said it was his choice. That's what puppets do.
