U of I fans want him coaching in champaign next year.

I'm not sure that's true. The U of I boosters won't be excited to hire another MAC coach. They'll be looking for more of a "name".

PJ is a name guy, believe it or not. Everyone in the country knows who he is because of RTB.

And U of I isn't going to be getting a name guy. There are too many glam jobs open for name guys: Florida, Michigan, Miami, etc.
I didn't mean a "hot name" - just a "name" (Think: "Zook")

Somebody like RTB's buddy Schiano.

Schiano would be a good fit for both. Schiano will not be able to land a premier job...like Florida or Texas last year. He would fit at Miami if they are looking, but IL would be a good match for both. I personally don't like the guy, but he has NFL experience and can recruit.

Quote:I could see him pushing really hard to get a new job this year because he knows the tough schedule is coming. Again, not saying it will, but I never underestimate a good salesman.

The main key is that He brought us to 1-11 -- he didn't inherit 1-11. And he had no coaching experience prior. Teams will take risks and hire someone after only 2 years of HC experience with little prior coaching experience. Usually doesn't work. But KEY to this is that he has ZERO HC/OC/DC coaching experience prior and little besides that + HALF his coaching experience is going 1-11.

He's a hot commodity still in-the-making. Going 8-4 the second year after curtailing a team to 1-11, in a down year in the MAC isn't going to land a new position. I'm NOT bashing him at all -- I want him to stay and define us, which I think he will. I have *zero* worry that he could even possibly be leaving this year.
