Frank Wilson or Neal Brown?
Looks like these may be the top 2 candidates for the Troy job. Who do you think it should be?

Here's some back ground on the two guys...

Frank Wilson- currently the RB coach, Recruiting coordinator and Assisoiate HC at LSU. Frank often runs the LSU football program (when Les isn't around)... He was Named National Recruiter of the year 2011, 2014. With previous coaching expierence at Tennessee, Ole Miss and Southern Miss... Wilson would likely be a CEO type of head coach and bring in good assistants under him. Not to mention recruiting is needed very badly at Troy and to have a 2 time recent recruiting of the year wouldnt hurt. Word is he was offered HC jobs at USM and LA Tech but turned them down in the past. Most recently I was told he was offered the OC position at Ole Miss under Freeze. So why Troy now? He is currently paid 650k at LSU.

Neal Brown- currently the UK OC. Has a young UK offense this year but has been putting up decent numbers. UK might be bowl eligible after Saturday for the first time in years... Before Kentucky he was at Texas Tech and had a top 15 offense in 3 seasons. Before Texas Tech he was at Troy from 2006-2007 as the WR coach and from 2008-2009 was our OC. During that time he was there we saw 4 sbc titles, and in 2009 he had a top 3 ranked Offense. Could brown put together a good assistant staff? Or would he try and run the offense himself? Currently he's paid 550k at UK

RE: Frank Wilson or Neal Brown?
Brown: He's had years of experience being an OC, including experience at major programs. He coached at Troy for a few years so he knows the Sun Belt and know Troy. He is specifically prepared for the issues that only Troy faces, and should be good enough to fire up a strong fan base that just needs a reason to cheer again.

The thing I don't like about Wilson is he has never been an OC, to the point of turning down multiple offers to become one. He's comfortable being a CEO. That works as a head coach IF he has the budget to bring in great assistant coaches. AState is trying this approach with Anderson, giving up crazy amounts of money to spend specifically on assistant coaches. Can Troy commit the money necessary to not only pay Wilson 700-800K as a head coach, but also have a large pool for dollars for assistants?

I still say call Bill Clark Sunday and give him a take it or leave it offer.

The assistants will get a pay boost yes... How much idk?

I'm happy with these two candidates. Both sound great! I had Neal brown as my fav but after really looking at Wilson I'm not so sure... He's going an impressive resume! A lot of people outside Troy that's in the sports world think we should go after Wilson.

My gut says Troy will hire Wilson.

People in the Sports World know little about Troy...and a lot about Frank Wilson.

That doesn't make him a great fit.

I think both would be great fits at Troy. And I think both would be successful... Probably only bring at Troy maybe 3-4 years then taking a bigger job.

You know when I saw the thread title I thought "Really!! Someone feels the need to poll on a sports forum about what is going on in Ferguson Missouri."

Neal Brown...Michael Brown, Frank Wilson...Darren Wilson.

Back on topic, I would go with Neal Brown.

A coach known for recruiting and that is mainly it is a real gamble. We saw what a disaster that was right across the river.

I think in these days of college football you go with the offensive guy. Hopefully he can bring in a DC to take care of the defense, but in today's football you need to be able to put points on the board.

Yeah, that's what this basket of fun is for. It is not for those without thick skins.

Frank Wilson or Neal Brown?
Neal Brown is who I would hire. Seems to be more of an up-and-coming head coaching candidate. Younger guy could inject some life back into the program and get recruiting back to what it once was. Familiarity with the program are a bonus, as are his SE+Texas recruiting ties.

Honestly I could be wrong, but I will laugh my butt off if yall hire Frank Wilson. The last LSU recruiting guru did great as a HC right?

Doesn't matter who we hire they could fall flat on their face... Different people different situation....

At our level it's a risk with whoever we hire.

Hoping for Brown. We have the talent at Troy to run an unstoppable offense with Brown. I have no idea what we'd get out of the gate with Wilson.

I agree with you. I won't be disappointed with Frank... Both want the job, it's Troys decision...

Word is UKs OL coach would come with NB to be our OC.
