That may not be accurate. Check out this discussion on our Rice Fan Board ("Parliament") last week before our game at Marshall:

... Do you have a reference? ...

Also, C-USA rules prohibit a 6-6 member over a 7-5 member:
http://m.conferenceusa.com/m/sports/m-fo...14-19.html

NCAA Postseason Bowl Handbook - see page 6. This section of the handbook just essentially restates NCAA Bylaw 18.7.2.1 & its subsections, which can be looked up at ncaa.org or elsewhere. The automatic preference for 7-wins-or-better teams over 6-6 teams has been gone for a couple years now, I believe.

So just to clarify: a CUSA team with 7+ wins could not be locked out of a CUSA bowl slot by any 6-6 CUSA team. However, if there are more 7+-win CUSA teams than CUSA bowl slots (5) at the end of the season, a 7+-win team could be passed over, and any bowl with an open slot could choose freely from amongst all 6-6 or better available teams.

Bottom line: 7-win C-USA teams will be placed in C-USA bowls ahead of 6-win C-USA teams. But that's not required for other bowls. Those bowls could choose a 6-win non-C-USA team over one of our 7-win teams, if there are any left over after our bowls are filled up.

All this means is that WKU even with a win on Friday will still stay home. We are resigned to the fact that the only way to be assured of a bowl game is to win the conference championship, otherwise we do not go bowling.

1 is it not the best thing for CUSA for Marshall to go undefeated and
Go to the access bowl

By Marshall being selected that gives CUSA an extra bowl that WKU
Could be invited to.

Its an interesting question.....

I am sure WKU will be going for our 4th straight win and get to 7-5

Also it is a total crock the playoff Comm not ranking Marshall with a undefeated schedule

Of course they want to win, as did my team against Houston in 2011 in a similar situation. However, our fine AD at the time chose the Hawaii Bowl vs Nevada rather than a Texas Bowl engagement vs Penn State. We then hired the worst Head coach in the history of college football and it has been downhill quickly since.....

RE: Does WKU want to beat Marshall ?
Friday's game is a "win-win" from my prospective.

WKU loses - Marshall remains perfect on the season and generates good PR for the conference as whole and hopefully gets the access bowl which means more money and exposure for the conference.

WKU wins - we get PR for beating one of the last two unbeatens and we get our first win over a Top 25 D1A program.

Marshall may not get an access bowl slot unless they win convincingly in both this game AND the conference championship as right or wrong (wrong IMO) they are behind Boise

If they don't, I think we might have 7 eligible teams for 6 slots.

If WKU gets to 7 wins, they go ahead of other 6 win CUSA teams (won't happen though)

The only team that should deliberately lose is the Washington Generals.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Generals

I guarantee that the winner of Rice/LaTech will be giving their all. Rolling over negates the value of winning. This is not the Tour de France.

Bowl games are all about TV and whatever ESPN wants. If Marshall goes down to Western, I can guarantee you a Smelly Raggedy Red Towel that WKU is in a Bowl Game! Your QB is in the top 5 or 10 in several passing categories, and is a likely draft pick in the spring. So, win it and you are in it! Now, even though I normally root for you (except when you play my beloved Raiders); I hope Marshall destroys you! CUSA NEEDS MARSHALL TO BE UNDEFEATED!

If Marshall fans want to feel legit, WKU has to give them their best shot. I'm sure the WKU players are gonna give it all they've got. They want to win and don't give a rats ass about best $$ situations etc.

Marshall should have won in a walk on paper. WKU was fired up. We had been treating every game since LaTech like a playoff game. Some Marshall newspaper guy was giving our guys bulletin board material that had them riled up. I don't think anyone predicted 4 INTS for the Tops and 8 TDS for Doughty.

RE: Does WKU want to beat Marshall ?
One word... YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Our defense got its ass handed to it today... There is a MAJOR problem going on when you hang 60 plus points on someone and lose... Played the run... Didn't blitz worth a crap...nothing changed in the second half...So, congratulations WKU... you truly earned it...

Hopefully, it was overconfidence... We had been playing with fire ever since the FAU game... And we got our asses burned and busted down a few notches... This loss, I think will be a good thing overall... Hopefully we'll come out with a huge chip on our shoulder this Saturday and take care of business...

It is difficult to go undefeated no matter what league you're in... So a big congratulations to WKU for a well deserved victory.. Good luck in your bowl game... We'll be rooting for you...
