I thought I read all bowls have to wait until after playoffs are announced, no?

We don't have a team in consideration for the playoff or access bowl, we have two bowl games played 13 days after the big announcement day, and all our games finish Saturday. Apparently the powers have blessed us being able to announce early.

That's not saying they will announce that early just that they can if they have it ironed out. Depending on how Saturday goes it might take a bit to iron it out.

AState's gimme is 8-4 and in the playoffs.
TXST's gimme finished 4-7 and just got busted by the NCAA for improper certification of eligibility and failing to maintain correct roster lists with the NCAA.

And TXST was kind in beating them only 65-0 after the coach popped off that TXST had no business in FBS. Another 15 points was warranted if Fran had taken mercy.

The head to head hurts us with USA, as well as we beat the same number of FBS teams.

The track record with bowls and our quality of opponents hurts us with stAte.

We're last in the pecking order, sadly.

Our champ isn't eligible for the access bowl this year, so we cant be selected. That means we get to announce early. Especially since we don't have any regular season games first week in December like the AAC does this year.

I'd much prefer having a champ that's eligible to be selected in the future and getting to wait until December 7th.

Just to summarize this thread for us:

USA isn't going to go bowling because they likely finish 6-6, and because the GO Daddy wont want the local team.

Texas State isng going to go bowling because their AD is a moron who has no idea how to negotiate.

Arkansas State isn't going to a bowl because Karl Benson is the Sun Belt Commish and he would never allow such things to happen.

Cajuns fans are now happy with New Orleans, and still cant believe they lost to App State.

Cajun fans "not" happy with NO and anyone with common sense knew App St was going to be tough.

Clarification...not happy with NO only because the pre.season had so much promise. That being said, a city that once thought of this game as nuisance, now prays that UL is in it every year. We tip like nobody's business!
