I'm not surprised to see a certain fan base struggle with the concept of a power ranking.

I know! What's up with those App fans? It's called a power ranking not a sour ranking.

Appy wins a few games and suddenly they are the undisputed best team in the conference? Who lost to liberty this year?

Why is GS even ranked in it then? Pretty sure we were off this week.

Then you are going off our last weeks performance against Navy?

You guys really are some simple folks. Cadet, if you ever come under my command I will ensure your platoon SGT comes to all our meetings.

I don't see how any power ranking can have App State #1. You can't start off 1-5 and lose to Liberty and then have a late season awakening and suddenly become the #1 power in the conference.

Georgia Southern is clearly #1 in the conference. Here are the records of the top six schools in the conference playing each other:

Georgia Southern 3-0
ULL 3-1
App State 2-2
USA 2-3
Arkansas State 1-3
Texas State 1-3

ULL is 3-1, but their four losses have been by an average of 28 points. App State loss by 26 points to USA at home. I think it is GSU and five other schools at #2.

Calling someone simple without knowing them personally is pretty demeaning. I'm sure you know all about my leadership abilities and potential.

RE: Sunbelt Power Rankings
I'd still put my money on GS. The game is all about how the teams match up with each other, and the offense that GS runs is a would still give App St problems. Granted the Mountaineers might be a bit better on offense, but just because they had success against other teams doesn't mean that anything would be different than when they played GS in September. Everyone seems to point to TX State and Navy. We'll, it looks like TX State is a pretty decent team now and Navy is significantly better when their starting QB is at full strength. I'd bet that the Navy team that GS played in Annapolis on their Senior Day, which they haven't lost on in 11 years, would wipe the floor with any Sunbelt team.

Here are the facts: GS is 7-0 in the conference. They have in conference a highly rated offense and defense. With the exception of NMSU and TX State, both on the road, they have beaten all other Sunbelt teams by 20+ points. There is no guarantee that App St. ULL or stAte could beat GS in a game played today. Given what I've seen from ULL and stAte over the past couple of weeks, my guess is that GS would soundly beat both of them. As for App State, 34 is a lot more than 14. Of course there's always next year.

Ever hear, first impressions make a break you? You have not demonstrated the cognitive ability to adjust your personal bias to what reality is, nor do you understand what a power ranking is.

RE: Sunbelt Power Rankings
How far back does a "power ranking" look back? The most recent game? 2 weeks? 6 weeks? Just enough games so the Liberty game doesn't count?

I'm thinking this power ranking this week is based on if you beat the champions from last year, you are #1. The last two weeks are about 80% of the equation.

I think at this point some of you people are just being simple to be ignorant. At least I hope so, for society's sake and all that.

Bobcats, you've just become our Super Bowl.

RE: Sunbelt Power Rankings
App's loss to Liberty (FCS, not even top 25 in FCS) and blowout loss to Georgia Southern, and App's one loss to a SBC foe that Georgia Southern beat (App 2 SBC losses, GS 0) makes it very difficult to rank App #1.

Power Rankings are not who has had the best season, but they are also not who had the best game this week. That would be a Performance Poll. The Power Rankings are a ranking of an entire season but weighs heavily, though not exclusively, on the most recent game played, and also factors in slightly the last few games played.

There is no clear evidence that App is far and away #1, therefore GS should retain the #1 spot until they lose. If they lose to ULM and App crushes Idaho, there would be enough reason for a #1 ranking.

Lol. You can find dozens of power rankings out there based on actual data and none will rank App ahead of GS.

However, in some App fans' minds, there is a "power ranking" that puts App ahead of GS. However, they can't say what the data factors are. One clear fact though is that all data considered must start after the Liberty loss and the head to head matchup cannot be considered.

Maybe the appropriate title is "the gut feeling ranking". No data points, just gut feel.

In the end, what folks will remember is who won the conference. That won't be App State. I just don't get this obsession with trying to replay the Ga Southern game. We played the game when it was scheduled. They won. I'm far more interested in the game coming up this Saturday than the game back in September.

RE: Sunbelt Power Rankings
I rational person can understand that GS won the season with the full body of work, but another team could be ranked higher in power rankings.

I am concerned about Idaho and sending off these seniors but this thread is about power rankings we've had this thread every week.
