Cactus Bowl and AAC
I've been seeing a lot of bowl predictions, mostly on here that have an AAC team in the Cactus Bowl vs the PAC. Would someone please explain how this is even possible? The AAC has 6 bowls, and currently 4 bowl eligible teams. With Houston winning today that's 5 bowl eligible teams. The MWC has 6 bowl eligible teams, and 5 bowl bids. If the Big 12 doesn't have an available bowl team to fill it's Cactus slot, how does the MWC lose it's backup to the AAC? Are these projections predicting a bowl trade?

OK, that's where I'm wrong; I had Bahama's listed this year.

So, those 5 bowls will be filled because Houston will certainly win one more. Temple could be #6. The MWC will fill their 5 bowls and have 1 team left over. If Temple does become bowl eligible, how does the AAC replace MWC in Cactus if there's an opening?

I don't see any way to fill the cactus bowl...I bet Temple wishes we had kept the Bahamas Bowl...sounds like a fun trip.

I don't either. That's why I'm asking how people were coming up with that projection. It didn't make any sense at all...
How does the Independence backup work? If the Big 12 and/or SEC can't fill their slots and there are only 5 bowl eligible AAC teams, can the league replace one of those 5 with the Independence? Aresco mentioned flexibility with the bowls a million times so there has to be some sort of plan for this.

I don't think that's correct. If the cactus or any other higher level bowl opens up, it simply gets added to the mix of bowls our teams can go to. At least, I would hope one of our teams dont get left out of the cactus or liberty bowls just because we didn't have enough spots to fill the spot in Birmingham.

My bad. So 4 for sure. Houston will win at least 1 more, that's 5. Temple needs a W to get the AAC 6 bowl eligible teams. UCONN, Tulane, SMU and Tulsa are not eligible already and USF needs a heck of a finish to make it 7!

If I were to say, "I hope 1 plus 1 equals 3" would you tell me it's not possible or would you tell me to hope lol

If Aresco did his job right, any backup to a bigger take precedence.
Per the MW associate commish the MW cactus bowl get fill first after the Vegas. Here's the pecking order for the MW.
Access Bowl, Las Vegas, Cactus (if available), all other bowls: (no pecking order, base of matchup, history and geography).
