The conference championship means simply that they have to place you. You're guaranteed a spot. After that it's a money grab and records and conference standings have nothing to do with it.

Agreed, I think Tx State's fan base would have a good showing for their first bowl appearance, Mobile isn't that far of a trip from San Marcos.

LOL. But Mobile is much closer to Mobile than it is to San Marcos

I think it'd be optimal if we got a bowl in Texas, while USA has their own bowl.

I am of the opinion that both teams would have very good showings, which is important for their first bowl... gives bowls a level of expectation which can help in the future.

One thing I had heard on the radio last night... Something about the NOLA bowl not wanting the Cajuns this season...

that makes zero sense to me, but had anyone else heard that as well?

I linked an article below that was in the Lafayette Daily Advertiser from this morning covering the New Orleans Bowl. To quote Billy Ferrante from the article;

"We're obviously very interested in them," Ferrante said.

"It would be extremely palatable, I think," he added. "We have not got any issue about four years in a row. I'm not sure what the (best) word is. A delicacy?"

The article also references that with the new playoff system that no bowl announcements can be made until December 7th.

We've brought a lot of fans and a lot of money all three years. We are well proven. We drink a lot and tip well.

TXST poor attendance with bowl eligibility on the line and senior night did not help them at all last night. At all.

The bowls already know how we travel but have to guess on TXST based on home attendance and distance.

Good news for TXST is they may be in a gambling mood this year.

Just curious, do you think you would bring the same amount of people 4 years in a row?

Drop off in year 2 but year 2 and 3 were comparable. We have a core going every year plus some who go part time.

Plus we have enjoyed Mobile every time and they keep trying to improve it.

We'd be fine with 4.

Our traveling and spending is not the issue.

So does the team playing in the GoDaddy bowl get more practice time versus the team in the Dec 20 bowls? Or do they have to ration out a certain number of hours/days?

It's a set number of practices...15 max allowed. Which is almost like having an extra spring. Huge plus to going bowling that is often over looked.

The last few years, we spread it out. Usually a week or so off, and then practices every other day for a couple weeks. Team would then be released for Christmas, and return a few days later and practice for 3 days before traveling to Mobile where the last few days of practice took place.

The January games may be hard to plan for, but it really allows you the most time to heal and prepare. The downside is that we've come out flat a couple times down there early simply because we hadn't played in so long.

I have a daughter who lives in Cibolo and it is 643 miles to their driveway driving I-10/I-12 all the way except for a few miles on a farm road. I'm guessing it's a good 670 miles from San Marcos to Mobile.

There were maybe 50 tx st fans in Mobile for our game, but like 11k Jag fans, so meh.

Mobile isn't very close. I wouldn't expect a big travel group for an Alabama bowl. At least it can be driven to in a day.

You think that Texas State fans would travel well for a middle of the pack (at best) Sun Belt team?

For the first bowl ever, we'd travel well. I won't make predictions, but it wouldn't be an embarrassment to the Sun Belt.

There is no maximum to the amount of practices before a bowl game.

You are correct, it's a rule commonly reported that is incorrect

Nola to UL - I think this is settled.

GoDaddy gets second choice - very interesting with USA eligbile. Does selling 15k or more in tickets outweigh hotel and restaurant revenue? (One other issue for this bowl is added expense for schools preparing because all the important practice time is during Christmas break. It's an added expense that the other 2 bowls don't have since they are earlier in the bowl season)

Montgomery gets last pick - If stAte and Tx. State both finish 7-5 I think they just pick whoever they believe will bring the most fans. 7 to 8 hour trip for stAte fans, gotta be at least 12 for Tx St. fans. I think stAte has the upper hand with the shorter trip and recent history of support for GoDaddy. (of course I am a little biased)

If a Texas bowl has an empty slot and Tx. State is 7-5, I could see them gettig the nod over some MAC and MWC schools that have too far to travel.

That would really work out well for everyone involved.

I hope the Jags somehow pull a rabbit out of the hat over the next two games and make this a moot point. Jerry Palm's got TXST in the Camellia, stAte in the NOB, UL in the GoDaddy, and the Jags in the Indy. I think he's got the Jags subbing for a SEC opponent. Seven wins with an attractive late season win would definitely help us get 4 in. However, I don't see us knocking off SC. That makes the last game against Navy that much more exciting. Last game, post season on the line?
