If ASU loses to NMSU and finishes 6-6, if a SBC team is left without a bowl it might be the Red Wolves. Especially if USA surprises Navy or South Carolina to finish 7-5 and Texas State finishes beats GSU to finish 7-5.

If we finish 6-6 we should not go. Now I feel the same way about any 6-6 team unless there are no 7-5 teams.

RE: So if anyone wants to know
This board sometimes seems more like an AA meeting than a conference fan board. I get that there's a right and a left or fans that rather prop others up while some would rather continue to harp on the smack. The reason that Skins continues to troll with comments is he's likely afraid that one day we'll turn to the pessimism that seems to pervade this board. Texas State played a hell of a game against GS and again against a very good Ark State team. App state the same last week. They , both of them, arrrre the real deal... They didn't win because ASU is terrible and plagued with injuries. We beat Florida last year with 19 on the DL after rotating 4 coaches in 8 years in the last game of the season, despite the misguided display of empathy shared by the earlier GS fan. After this many weeks of practice and games EVERYONE is hurting. There's merit in dampening the negative exposure a loss brings your conference mate, particularly OOC. but there's also merit in lifting up the team that just kicked yr ars. Recruits need to see more optimism on """""this""""" board. I'm thinking about starting a thread like this for GS just to see the world explode. I'm "anyone" and I approve this message. Carry on. 04-cheers

I want you guys to win so we can have a win over a team that finished the season with a winning record.

If we win, it will probably just show how bad NMSU is more than anything.

Doesn't matter. It would be our first win over an FBS team with a winning record.

Same reason that Georgia Southern should be rooting for us and USA. They haven't won yet against a team with a winning record in FBS. Right now, our "average" (I put it in quotes because I think it is an average at best performance) seasons to date in FBS are minimized because of a lack of a win over someone with a winning record.

We will have a win over you guys. You are going to finish 7-5. But you right --- we have lots of wins vs. some very mediocre teams. But this was the schedule we were given. Whoever was on it we still are 8-3 right now with 1 game left.

I'm not diminishing what you guys have done. It's remarkable. But you guys (and us/USA) haven't beaten anyone with a winning record (and that does not say mediocre).

That's why I said you guys should be rooting for us and USA. If we win next week against Georgia State, and USA wins one of their next two... that puts two teams with winning records, and validates your accomplishment.

Yep. I am pulling for Texas St. to get a bowl game and you certainly should if you finish 7-5 which I expect you to do. If our game had lasted another 5 minutes you would have beaten us.

Lake Wobegon?

Where all the teams are above average?

RE: So if anyone wants to know
If you go back to Sun Belt media days, ULM's Todd Berry is asked about the league and AState's run. His answer was that the margin between most teams was pretty thin and injuries often determine the winner, he specifically talked of how AState had been unusually successful avoiding injuries the past few years.

AState has been in a bizarre cycle. We pretty decent in 2008, beat TAMU, went into the final game playing for the conference but landed 6-6. In 2009 we had an incredible number of injuries and finished with guys playing positions they had never played. 2010 the team quit. 2011 we pulled out basically every close game and were very healthy, 2012 won most the close games and were healthy, 2013 we were lost with Harsin but righted and not until Kennedy got hurt late did we have any huge injuries. 2014 has been much like 2009 in injuries.

While most schools can figure X number of season ending injuries each year, AState is getting a similar average over several years but they seem to cluster in a single year. Think its what the stats people call regression to the mean.

I'll take 6-5 with how beat up AState is because the probability is next year will at best see fewer than average or just a more manageable average number of injuries.
