Former UTEP AD Ben Collins and wife die in accident
Mr. Collins was responsible for hiring Coach Haskins in 1961. Very sad news.

My heart goes out to El Paso tonight. Mr. Collins and his wife were something special to your community and they will be missed.

This makes me sick. May they rest in peace. I am not in a 'blame game' mood but we need to address this. Crosswalk or not, drivers simply need to be more aware of their surroundings.

So unnecessary, sad, and avoidable. Too many have died in that area.

Dig a freaking tunnel for the traffic, or build a bridge to cross that area!

Sad news. Condolences from Middle Tennessee.

The gentleman and his wife must have been in their nineties.

I'm not surprised that we've had so many casualties in that area. You put people coming out of bars (not referring to the Collins') and the maniacs that drive our streets and you can't be surprised. We do need a bridge over the street but how many young'ins would use it? They would rather jaywalk.

RIP Mr. and Mrs. Collins.

Terrible news for Miner Nation, and prayers for the Collins family. RIP.

Was he any kin to Bobby Collins, the former football HC at SMU and Southern Miss?

The city tried, but there was push by some activist that lead to its defeat saying it would ruin Kern. Ironically that activist crashed her car drinking and driving and died crashing into a lamp post near Kern. Later on they replaced the plan for the parking garage.
