The Next 2 in will be Cincy and Memphis.

We have been on the radar for them for a long time. Academics and Football were the only 2 things keeping us out. Both have been improved.

Empowering The Dream Campaign was a significant initiative to jump start our efforts to accelerate our academic and athletic status. In my opinion, we need to fast forward deployment of the $250M that was assigned to bricks and mortar projects (ie 95% of the funds). By going to the state capital budget website of TN, we are clearly in the final discussion to break ground. We should see massive amounts of grounds breaking towards:
- Nursing & Audiology Center (already in progress)
- Upgraded Student Housing
1) Patterson Hall Replacement (in progress)
2) Southern Avenue (private investment group)
3) 2nd on Southern Ave (private investment)
- Bio Science Center
- Land Bridge
- Student Rec Center (funded by activity fee)
- Convocation Center

Academic Status
We have made great headway towards increasing our annual research grants to $100M. We are tracking to hit this goal in 2015. By doing so, our University will be in a high tier and be considered more prestigious. I would like to see the Engineering Dept sponsorses by 1 of the local medical device companies similar to the FedEx institute.

Athletics
We have heard and read articles about a new campaign to upgrade South Campua with
- M and W BBall Facility
- IPF and Training Table
- Soccer Field/Track
- Softball Amenities

Lot's to be excited about. As fans, the easiest things for us to get excited about are "Ws" on the athletic field and campus construction. We have to trust the leadership to advance conf discussions, align with corp sponsors, and execute capital campaigns. All the signs are there that we are doing the "right things." The questions are a) is this enough and b) will adequate progress have been made prior to the next conf expansion.

I don't know what to think. A google search brings up nothing of us going to the Big XII, but Tigerscane says we're in.

I don't think anyone is "definietly in". I bet there are talks with all of those institutions through back channels.

Yep. Basketball doesn't count. Ask Kansas.

I imagine basketball counts about 15%. As for football, attendance and travel reputation probably count as much as winning. That's where WE come in! Very important for our fans to understand that and act accordingly.

RE: The Tigers are not mentioned
Basketball would be good for Kansas and Texas and OU and Baylor, but Football is the Money Cow, and Right now Football is our best sport and only getting better under General Fuente and this staff....Nothing is final nor will you read or see any of this on articles discussing this....What you will see in December is the Vote which is 50/50 at best, which the Big 12 is really hoping along with ACC that the Conferences get to determine who the Champs are and determine who and how they get to a CCG, thus meaning the Big 12 doesn't have to Expand so fast, and the ACC can breath a little easier which is why the ACC wanted the rule in the first place, so they aren't in danger of loosing anymore teams to the Big or SEC possibly down the line...."But" the SEC, Big Ten, and Pac-12 still feel the same that it would be unfair that the Big 12 stays at 10 and gets CCG but they would still have advantages with that, and the SEC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and the Networks still want them at 12 and 12 brings in more revenue and more content for the Networks regardless of what anyone says....Its why ESPN and Fox Sports still promotes the SEC and talks of the Big 12 getting locked out this possibly to drive their point home on the matter....But Come December when the Vote gets Shot down and Denied, then the Big 12 will come calling and be fast and swift, and might have even started those conversations and preparing themselves for when the decision is made final.....The World Is Ours Memphis....

I don't know what to think. But I will say that what is reported in the media can be different than what happens behind the scenes. It seems like some of the shifts in realignment a few years ago didn't match what the media speculation was at the time.

they ain't mentioned in my quest for retweets from Memphis media either. Matt Stark can retweet all day about the Pats, but can't help out the #HOMETOWN team?

All of the above.

The thing a lot of people don't understand is the Big 12 doesn't expect us to do this overnight. There were talks, goals and standards were established. We are at this point, ahead of where we thought we'd be.

Our academics probably won't be up to par for another 5-7 years. What people want to see, is if the proper steps are being taken to accomplish the overall goal.

So as far as will they be good enough when the Big 12 expands.. Probably not.

Will we have done enough to be included based off potential? That is a loud resounding yes.

Memphis, geographically, is perfect picking for the BIG XII.

RE: The Tigers are not mentioned
I find it odd that I live in Dallas Metro, listen to talk shows, read the papers and blogs and the only place I ever hear Memphis mentioned as a possible addition to the Big XII is from Memphis.

I have neighbors that are TCU, Baylor, Texas and Tech fans. We gather to watch ball games, parties etc....they are oblivious to any news that Memphis is even being discussed, by anyone anywhere as a possible future member. It has become my running joke with them.

I do hope it is true, it would be awesome to be able to make four or five "road" games a year in the Big XII.

Not sure..it was my husband who was looking because he heard we might have a chance. I don't even know what ionic/doric means.
