Godfrey calls player's only meeting after Wichita game
Although these meetings rarely ever "turn the season around", I believe we have our leading candidate for leader in the locker room.

Sorry, I'm selling this.

He was completely lost in the WSU game. Beat on several back door cuts and did nothing on offense or defense. 0 points, 2 fouls, 1 to and 2 rebs on the heels of his 3pt 3 reb outburst vs. CBU.

Unless he was apologizing for his no-show and encouraging his teammates to all follow his lead and get their heads out of their azzes, this is a style over substance sounding thing.

His "when I was at TSU" speech my be just ahead of the "I went to the S16 as a video coordinator" one.

Good to see someone take the role. Will be interestign to see if it has any impact on the players. I would love to see more toughness out of this group.

Sounds like the Godfrey is a natural leader and is trying to rally the team together.

Obviously this is a good thing.

Good teams have strong leaders.

a team meeting 1 week into the season. Don't know whether to laugh or cry. Like I heard some caller on 56 say this morning--- "Tiger basketball should be a Saturday Night Live skit"

He is on the floor without a doubt...

Does he also lead vocally off the court as well?

These meetings generally proceed the coaches departure.

Players only meeting one game into the season? Seems normal...nothing wrong with this picture at all.

We both know that is not happening this year.

So does everyone else out there.

You can graduate players and stay out of the news, at the end it's all about the scoreboard.

RE: Godfrey calls player's only meeting after Wichita game
Bring back the DAP System!!!!

http://www.commercialappeal.com/sports/t...se-dap-gap

"University of Memphis basketball players and coaches call them "daps."

And though more commonly thought of as a fist bump or high-five, the Tigers have stretched the meaning of the term to include words of encouragement or approval such as "nice pass" or "good rebound."

On Thursday, the Memphis coaching staff was counting "daps" during a two-hour practice at the Finch Center, just as it does shot attempts, rebounds, turnovers and steals. The message was clear: Head coach Josh Pastner wants his Tigers, with eight new faces, to improve their team chemistry as they work toward their Nov. 3 exhibition opener against LeMoyne-Owen College.

"I was actually talking to (sports psychologist) Dr. (Joe) Carr about it, and he mentioned the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics use the most high-fives, daps and positive feedback between each other of anyone in the league. And they both obviously played for the (NBA) title last season," Pastner said.

"I felt that was something we should do. We're going to keep track of our daps, high-fives and positive feedback. For a team that needs to talk more, it was actually a good thing today.""

RE: Godfrey calls player's only meeting after Wichita game
When Chuck Daly was coaching the Orlando Magic in the late 1990s and his team was mired in a rough patch, he learned that a couple of his players were itching for a players-only meeting. Eric Musselman, one of his young assistants, recalled how Daly recruited him to relay a message to Horace Grant: permission denied.

“Players-only meeting?” Daly groaned. “Not good. Not needed.”

Its efficacy has been debated. Its origins are unclear. But the players-only meeting, a staple of losing teams everywhere, has remained an enduring tradition in professional sports, much to the disappointment of countless coaches. Like fungus, the players-only meeting refuses to die.
