Josh needs to play this lineup!!!!
Magee, Burrell, Iverson, Nichols, and Goodwin.....With Markel and King coming off then bench or Magee, Markel, Iverson, Austin, Shaq with Burrell and King top two off the bench.....Iverson needs to be the starting 3, and Magee needs to be the starting PG, with Pookie, King, and Either Markel or Burrell coming off the bench.....Its best lineup we got and should be going with it and riding it.....let them gel together and get it going together....Stick with a lineup and ride it....Stop confusing these kids.....Time to Man up, and pick a lineup, and Develop it.....The World Is Ours Memphis....

So ... JP is so clueless that he should be starting two guys who didn't even play in the first game of the season?

King needs to be on the court as much as possible. Start him, he's earned it.

I'm sure he will ... randomly at some point ... for at least 90 seconds.

Might be a good move for him. One of the guards will be the odd man out.

Plus Pookie and Markel have already redshirted, so they can't again.

RE: Josh needs to play this lineup!!!!
Just because most of these players can ball at HS level does not necessarily translate into them being ballers at college level. Sure, I hope all our players can transition fine, but that has proven to not be so. But, I think there should be a core group of 3 starter players and 3 second string players. And, Pastner can rotate the other positions to whoever is the hottest.

Unless you have an unending line of 5 stars like Cal, a good coach has to teach, train,
and develop his players, to make them progress. This is not happening at Memphis!

Shaq, Austin, King should be a no-brainer. Then I would try Markel & Pookie (with a wet towel in my mouth so I wouldn’t bite my lip off).

RE: Josh needs to play this lineup!!!!
Look guys,I know i am more of a football guy, but i do know Basketball and know some talent for starters....I think Josh "HAS" to try things a bit different....Try Markel at Point, Burrell at the 2, Kuran at the 3, with Austin at the 4 and Shaq at the 5....I would try a Bench of Pookie, Woodson, King, Godfry, and Johnson....ride with it and more than a few games...Johnson, King, Pookie and Godfry should help the bench out....With Markel at the Point make Johnson work for it....Make them go 5 on 5 in practices and earn it, best 5 starts....But he has to figure something out and stick with it....Just stop confusing the kids man....Just make them bring it....The World Is Ours Memphis...

RE: Josh needs to play this lineup!!!!
Woodson, Godfrey, Trashon Burrell and Chris Hawkins all need to get minutes along with Austin, Shaq and King.

There is a seven man rotation right there and if Kuran really is just recovering from a concussion then that is going to be 8 imo.

Hard to see those 8 not playing, though one of them may get less and less minutes as the year goes along. So who gets the PG duties and who else gets minutes? And are we really going to rotate 10 or 11 guys this year? Seems like Josh wants Pookie, Markel and Kendren to have roles at the very least. Even if one of them can't break out of the pack yet. Magee to redshirt or does he get PT?

The next few weeks should give us some answers.

RE: Josh needs to play this lineup!!!!
Burrell might be one of our best offensive players at the end of the season. He just looks comfortable out there. Woodson had a good game shooting., if he is consistently putting up good shots, give him more minutes and maybe let him run the point.

Id like to see nichols set more screens and not excert so much energy fighting for position down in the post especially since nobody was feeding him the ball. But his defense looks improved. He had about 4 or 5 nice blocked shot.

King is a great post scorer and will prob be our leading scorer most nights. Shaq still has got to focus on staying out of foul trouble, he might be our best energy guy and having him come off the bench first would maybe work to our advantage. He also should stop running his mouth when we our losing. Smack talking the opponents will only make him look silly.

Until we see iverson on the court I'm not sure starting him is the answer. We do need to figure out if johnson/Powell/Crawford can run the point. Once one of those finds their groove the team will start to play better. Hawkins and Godfrey might be our dirty work/hustle guys for grabbing loose balls and setting screens, rebound and focus on defense.

The whole team has got to value the ball and cut down on turnovers period. If we can find our identity on defense and commit less turnovers things will work themselves out. Not sure about Magee/Cunningham/manse but if they can shoot then they will find minutes in the rotation eventually.

But Wichita state is a very good team and we should give them more credit for pulling away. Memphis bball fans sound like the football fans about 5 years ago and vice versa. We just need to support the teams no matter how bad things are or wether we like the coaches or not. It's just a sport and merely entertainment. No need to argue for days on end about trivial nonsense.

Go tigers. [/align]
