RE: Sorry to be clueless but how is Charlotte football doing this year?
We are 4-6 right now, but have been competitive in every game. Our big problem is lack of defense. We can put up a lot of points, but we let the other teams put up more.

We should end the season at 5-6, the same record as last year. Our record doesn't show it, but the team has improved. That being said, all of us Charlotte fans are expecting a bloodbath next season.

RE: Sorry to be clueless but how is Charlotte football doing this year?
Our defense is awful. Any decent FBS team will score 50+ on us next year. We have had some injuries this year, but I still don't anticipate next year being much better.

Offense is decent, but we struggle in the red zone. If Matt Johnson is still out QB, I expect us to have a lot of big plays, but we'll struggle when we need to make short passes.

Khalif Phillips is a beast at RB and he will be fine in CUSA. Austin Duke is a huge big play threat WR and I think he'll put up big numbers next year too.

That said, I don't see us winning more than 2 games next season.

From what I have seen, they are gonna need some JUCOs if they plan on winning a game next year. UAB might have a few good players to lend...

We should beat Presbyterian. If you're only talking about FBS teams, then yeah, I agree.

I think that in a few years Charlotte will field an experienced team that will give the home crowds exciting wins. In the meantime, they're in for some tough losses and maybe an absolute embarrassment or two.

What kind of offense does Charlotte run, anyway?

RE: Sorry to be clueless but how is Charlotte football doing this year?
I do worry, a lot, that the second transitional year for Charlotte didn't prepare them well for the move up to C-USA next year. I think, as others may have found out this year, every game against a C-USA opponent is a challenge. This is a tough league to play in, and I'm not sure that Charlotte is prepared. (PLEASE, don't get me wrong...I'm delighted you will be joining us as an all sports member next year.) See Georgia Southern as being much better positioned in their transitional year. But, to be fair, this is only Charlotte's second year with football, and I do like their coach, a lot. But I agree with the poster who said they may need some JUCO help for the next couple of years to be competitive.

Now go ahead and prove me wrong, 49ers!

Not a fantastic season but we had severe injuries to too many important players, especially on defense to win a lot this season. We are averaging 37 points a game and have scored at least 30 in 8 of our 10 games.
We won't win a conference game the first two years. We've still got tons of FCS players on scholarship.
We're going the right way, but we will give up yards and points biblically next season. I do hope we go the JUCO and transfer route this offseason.

We have some good, even great CUSA players, just not enough of them

Oh, you get Georgia State too. That should be a competitive game.

Sorry to root against a conference mate but my uncle was a Flanker for the Blue Hose in the early 80's! I still have one of his jerseys.

RE: Sorry to be clueless but how is Charlotte football doing this year?
It's been a brutal year for injuries. Our defense didn't look too bad until we lost both starting ILBs for the season, then it really went down hill.

We redshirted a Senior DE that was recovering from an injury he sustained last season so we could have him for CUSA. We also redshirted a couple of the promising players from our inaugural season so they would have 3 seasons of CUSA eligibility.

We had to kick 3 backup running backs off the team for multiple reasons since last offseason and lost our starting QB to a MCL tear a couple games ago.

Next season we do get some transfers eligible in some key positions:

WR Uriah LeMay (UGA)
DL Josh Manley (Syracuse)
DB Anthony Covington (App State)

So right about where Tulane would be in the FCS, but with more fans.

Spread Offense

3-4 Defense

We lost our two starting inside linebacker in games 1 and 3, and didn't win again till last week against a DIII school (a ranked and very good team that beat us last year, but still DIII, no excuses for last year or having a close win this year). The win/loss record won't show it but outside of losing handily to the #1 ranked FCS school, we have made improvements. We got blown out by these same schools last year. Only Coastal was more than an 8 point loss this year. We'll struggle next year, but when these guys are seniors during the next two seasons I think we'll be competitive.

All we can play for next year is pride and a C-USA Championship (not realistic even with JUCOs) because we won't be bowl eligible till 2016. I'd rather get the recruiting/classes rotation right while taking our lumps, than have a knot of JUCO's make us look better than we are and when they graduate leave the cupboard bare.

I fear they may set the record for most outscored FBS team in history. I don't say that pick on you guys, but there is no way you are ready for FBS ball. You should have played a couple games against them this year just to get the experience and tape.
