RE: Florida coaching search update
Fuente was unexpected for this job...I think he interviews extremely well, so if give the opportunity to interview I think people will be surprised who offers.
Secondly, I am not sure how patient Fuente is...He took this job which by all indications from the outside looking in was a coaches graveyard. He is an up and coming coach that has definitely helped the program to this point...Great hire by the administration whether he leaves after this year or not.

Too early to speculate on much, although that won't stop any of us. Ha.
No one's connected to the program like TC.

What exactly would lure him back to TCU?
Texas and Oklahoma are his recruiting grounds and TCU is an attractive job now that they are in the Big 12 and the commitment to football
TCU is effectively behind Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, A&M and Baylor just off the top of my head, when recruiting in that area.
What is Patterson paid right now?
They aren't effectively behind any of them in the rankings; they know Fuente, he knows them; he would get a massive raise and would get to coach in a premier conference. Fuente would leave for much less attractive jobs than TCU.

RE: Florida coaching search update
If Memphis matches the money, then I doubt Fuentes would leave for TCU. TCU is basically SMU with Gary Patterson. Their fan base is small and their presence in the Metroplex nominal. Patterson is a fantastic coach, and Fuente is cut from the same cloth, but any coach coming in would be held to an almost unattainable standard... for a middling program like TCU. I'd be more concerned with the next tier... like an Ok State , if Gundy were to leave.

I believe JF has been told that if it's just a money decision, we'll match the money. So if he decides to leave it will be for more than money.
I still think JF wants to build something here, wants stability for his children. Given the premise above, I think he is here for a while. The exception would be the home run job & I don't think TCU is it.

TCU would have a lot of talent left over, Fuente would probably get to keep a lot of the recruits, and is a good recruiter in his own right. He would take the coaching staff with him, and make great money and.
Other jobs will come open and Fuente would use TCU as a stepping stone to get to the next level. Not saying it is a given that this will happen, but that is how he is thinking.

Look for Florida to hire an offensive minded coach. The last two defensive minded coaches they've hired have been disasters

and Fuente played at OU.....
I'm sure Texas thought they wouldn't have to settle for Charlie Strong but things happen.
"Settle" for Charlie Strong?
He was 37-15 at Louisville. Won two Big East Championships and a Sugar Bowl.
Reminds me of one of the best LSUFreek gifs -

He's gone when/if offered a power 5 job that isn't an absolute albatross like Kansas for example.

They went down a list of quite a few names before they "settled" on Charlie Strong. He was far from their first choice which was my point. Strong is a good coach but the hire was met with lukewarm enthusiasm at the time - google "texas coaching search" if you don't believe me. There are a lot of variables here but IF Stoops were to leave OU then their list of potential replacements would probably have Fuente's name on it somewhere. Odds are that their coaching search will go similarly to Texas' meaning they will have to move down the aforementioned list. Much crazier things have happened.
When has any fanbase ever gotten their first choice in a coaching search? ("Gruden's coming!")
Texas' AD knocked it out of the park with Strong.
Texas 6-5 this year
swing and a miss for the talent in the state of texas
This year.
Over the next five years Texas likely to compete for their conference champion every year. Strong is a good coach.

That was big talk on DFW radio the past few days.
He has a relationship with the Florida AD.
Patterson isn't going anywhere unless TCU starts screwing him around, and I don't see that happening.

What next level? TCU is in the Big XII and is a national contender and has been since they were an annual BCS Buster. I don't think Patterson is going anywhere, but TCU has arrived and anyone going there isn't looking for a stepping stone. Patterson will be there as long as Beamer has been at VT.
