Rice might not agree

Also, can you tell me the last time Troy beat UAB in baseball?

http://www.uabsports.com/sports/m-basebl...sched.html

It seems as though Troy beat UAB in baseball 7-2 in April 2014. So Troy has won the last game between you guys. Any other questions?

Look, I don't hate UAB or wish for their football program to go away, but casting shade on Troy baseball isn't really a good idea.

Yeah, but they haven't beaten UAB since April. 03-lmfao

Isn't Troy or USA getting a new head coach this year?

This is the last year for Troy's coach, and then the assistant will become head coach.

Supposedly Akron and Toledo has shown some high interest as well.

Can't say I'm surprised. The MAC's new TV deal with ESPN is a nightmare, but the more traditional MAC schools would rather stick it out in misery together. A handful want out, though, and it's largely the same ones who think the MAC should invest in athletics instead of keeping the status quo.

USM would never go to the SBC. That's laughable. Our fans are already ticked off at our administration that we're still in C-USA while all these other programs we've "grown up with" have moved on and left us behind. To move down to the SBC would be to commit program suicide to our fans. Say what you want about outsider perspective on the two conferences and which is better, but to our fans, Sun Belt is far behind C-USA. And from the tone of the fans who joined C-USA from Sun Belt last round, it seems it's still seen that way.

I can't say I know much about college baseball as I've only attended like 2 games in my life. I looked up last years RPI and it looks like you're full of crap.

Well you are certainly right about the not knowing much about College baseball part.

Last year was one of the worst years in the history of the conference, and we still were within a couple innings of putting a team in Omaha.

We're normally one of the top 7 leagues in the country.

How many of those top tier teams are now in C-USA? Don't forget we just had a major switch in realignment.

Dim bulb, S AL, Troy and Louisiana are traditionally stronger than anything CUSA has to offer in baseball. Maybe you happened to notice that Louisiana was ranked #1 in college baseball for a good portion of the season last year. Of course you're a UAB fan, so maybe you didnt notice... drrrrrrr.....

Rice and USM would disagree. I won't try to say that USM has done well the past few years, but traditionally we're a strong program in baseball. And if we don't show it this year, we'll have a new coach next year to show it. ULL has been a great baseball team and I'd love to have them join us. But Rice and USM have been to the College World Series more recently than ULL.

UL was ranked #1 in the country in baseball last year and missed the CWS by one game.

I instantly thought of Rice when I read that post too. They are legit and they have an impressive history. USM is good as well. USA and ULL have an edge on all-time NCAA Tournaments appearances though:

USA - 25
ULL - 14

Rice - 20
USM - 12

Rice is the most successful of the 4 in advancing in the tournament. But in terms of all-time appearances USA and ULL have an edge.

In combined head-to-head match-ups, USA and ULL are 85-63 against USM and Rice. So in some metrics we are better. I wouldn't lump Troy in there just yet, but they have been consistent too. It would be a hell of a baseball conference if we were all 4 in the same conference!

Looks like 2 pretty solid leagues considering every school that fields a team has made the NCAA Tournament at least once.

Total NCAA appearances is 95-82 in favor of C-USA. Total CWS appearances is 8-3 in favor of C-USA, with Rice holding the only National Title.

A sad statistic for USA fans is that our program holds the NCAA record for being one win away from the CWS without making it. I'm at lunch and don't have the exact number in front of me, but I believe it is 7 or 8 times. Several times the other team had to beat us twice to advance and did so. Ugh.

Are we going to see who is ranked better in badminton next. Baseball, Swimming nor Softball will ever be looked at in conference realignment. It will be:

1) Media Market
2) Football
3) Nothing else really matters

If it did no way would Louisville have gotten into the ACC and well the AAC didn't even take the 2nd into consideration with Tulane.

If UAB is gone then it will be ULL or AState most likely. If its ULL it will give me a good reason to go see a lot of people I haven't seen since the early part of 2006. Although if Akron had more of a fan base I would much prefer to go that way.

I remember LSU doing that to the Cajuns one year in the red shaft. It was a major bummer.

How USA fares when ONE win away from CWS:
Southern Cal had to beat us twice in 1998.
LSU had to beat us twice in 1997.
LSU had to beat us twice in 1993.
Georgia Southern had to beat us twice in 1990.
Florida State had beat us twice in 1987.
Ole Miss had to beat us twice in 1972.

USA was also one game away against Miami in 1984 (coming from loser's bracket) but lost game 2.

#1 South Alabama in 2001 - #2 Clemson hosted

South Alabama, Troy, JSU all subsidizes larger percentages of their athletic program than we do as of last year. South Al subsidized 78.26% of their revenue. JSU subsidized 68.76% of their revenue. Troy subsidized 65.92% of their revenue. UAB subsidized 64.17% of their revenue.
