Dude, Lou Holtz would say Notre Dame has a shot at the 'ship if they were winless going into the 12th game.

He's not the only one. There's a lot of that, although it's not as bad as it was 60 years ago when they were the default national champion, crowned by the Irish-loving media every year.

Notre Dame, perennial pretenders. What a joke. Most delusional fan base in the history of sports in the known universe.

You can still catch him on beverly hillbillies reruns if needed

With the exception of Ole Miss, I cannot think of a school that has accomplished so little in the past 15 years with so much abundant resources than ND.

Here is the list of his misdeeds from his last three head coaching jobs:

Minnesota was "placed on two years probation for 17 rule violations, two of which were committed by Holtz during his tenure."

"Following an investigation in 1999, the NCAA placed Notre Dame on two years probation for extra benefits provided to football players between 1993 and 1999 by Kim Dunbar, a South Bend bookkeeper involved in a $1.4 million embezzlement scheme at her employer, as well as one instance of academic fraud that occurred under Holtz's successor, Bob Davie. The NCAA found that Holtz and members of his staff learned of the violations but failed to make appropriate inquiry or to take prompt action, finding Holtz's efforts "inadequate."

"In 2005, the NCAA imposed three years probation and reductions in two scholarships on the program for ten admitted violations under Holtz, five of which were found to be major. The violations involved improper tutoring and off-season workouts, as well as a lack of institutional control."

Holtz is living proof that people committing major violations in the sport they cover may still be lionized by the media and land plum TV jobs.

When both Notre Dame and Brian Kelly lose at the same time, for me, it really makes for 03-cloud9

However, I will be forever grateful of what BK and the Cats accomplished in those three years. May never see it again.

How old is Holtz? He coached at UConn in 1965. He was the head coach for the NY Jets in 1976. He must be 80.

I think a lot of schools would like to be 7-2 right now, 28-7 the past three years and 44-17 since 2010 while playing mostly P5 schools and no FCS schools ever, but maybe I am wrong.

At least Texas WON a National Championship during that time (believe they also played for another).
