Unless the Pirates crash and burn now that their dream of an Access Bowl was shattered last weekend by the Temple squad MEMPHIS just iced up at Licoln Financial.

If MEMPHIS somehow wins the AAC football title with a 9-3 mark, and an outside bowl like the Independence opens up.....oh, yeah, grab it.

But I concur that Birmingham is the likely bowl destination.

Anyone else think the AAC schedulers will have MEMPHIS play ECU, UCF, and Temple in the East division rotation next season? Probably the Owls here and on the road for the other two.

Well that'd be a schedule of.

Ole Miss
Missouri St.
@ Kansas
@ Bowling Green
@ECU
@UCF
Temple
@Navy
SMU
Tulane
Tulsa
@ Houston

Pretty rough lol.

The last 7 years flashed before my eyes when that FG went through. It has been a deep, dark abyss that we have been through.

Wait til this year!

Real good point there....and Coach Fuente had the b's to let them do it. It really was pretty risky given the depths we've seen.

Oh, how sweet it is!

Fuente is an amazing coach. There are few coaches out there that could have turned this team around as quickly as he has. Birmingham in January suddenly sounds like a pretty fun place.

People were ready to give up on Fuente last year because of the record....but the product on the field from LP's last year to now has taken steps each year. You almost had to see this coming this year.

What "people"? The same ones who called this game 'ugly'? And then when Ole Miss wins the same way, they talk about how great the defense was?

Excellent point. Every win is sweet, because they rarely come easy this day and time, and this one was very special for many reasons. I said last summer that 6 wins & a bowl game would have me dancing in the street and now it is reality, with an opportunity for even more. Congratulations & thanks to our players and coaches!! We truly fought like Tigers!

It was a great night for sports in Memphis period. I got home in time to watch the last 5 minutes. I was so nervous, have seen so many slip way for YEARS! The poise was tremendous in that last drive. At first I thought the field goal was wide left and my heart hit my little toe. Then then..they signaled GOOD and the HAPPY DANCE WAS ON!! That and a glass of wine. Bowling bowling...To the staff and players: WELL DONE!!!!

Pretty rough lol.

Not QUITE as rough as having to travel OOC to Pasadena and Oxford to play # 11 and # 7 ranked foes. Still, a rigorous schedule for MEMPHIS.

Breaking it down at this point right now:

OOC foes
* Missouri State probably > hard than APSU, but still a nice opening win
* Travel to Kansas < hard than travel to Pasadena
* Travel to MAC opponent BGSU > hard than hosting MTSU
* Black Bears here < hard than at Oxford. If boht teams finish 9-3 this year...I wonder if ESPN will try to arrange for the TIGERS and Rebels to play this game in the first game of the year but on a Friday or Thursday night (Sept 3 or 4)? With Freeze having a brand new QB and some turnover with his WR corps, I suspect he might not agree to a switch from the planned Sept 26 date.

AAC foes
* Tulane & SMU here > easier than traveling; should be easy wins
* Travel to UCF, ECU, and Houston > harder than at SMU, Tulane, Cincy; these will be dogfights (I also think all three of these games could be on ESPN, including one on Thursday night. Maybe MEMPHIS ends the season traveling to Orlando or Houston on Thursday, December 3?)
* Temple here < hard than travel to frigid Philly but another dogfight

I think MEMPHIS will host Navy and journey to Tulsa. Tulsa came here this year; one would think the AAC will strive to avoid two straight years of travel to the same foe. Teeing it up at Skelly will be > harder than playing them here but should be a win.

Finally, newcomer Navy comes to MEMPHIS in their first year, LOL. Hard to call it but Navy should be a good game.

They recently competed well against Notre Dame. I am delighted to have them in our division and look forward to visiting Annapolis. Wish we could also add Air Force and Army.

UCF to St. Pete
Memphis to Birmingham
Houston to Armed Forces in Ft. Worth
Temple to Annapolis
Cincy to Miami
East Carolina to outside Bowl

My guess.

I am still holding out hope for peach for my tigers :-) all that needs to happen is Marshall loses to Ltech (or UAB) and Boise st loses to Nevada in their championship game :-)

Oh, grasshopper, I tell you we had great wins in the '70's and before then, and it was lots of fun. We used to be DB U.

Put the mantle of pride on and expect to win! A new era has begun.

uhhh . . . .

We have 3 opponents we have to beat, and would need to walk over convincingly to jump others for the Peach Bowl.
