Punishment for UNC's cheating. Gotta maintain that credibility, right NCAA?

If Tyndall is to blame punishment should follow him with minor penalties(if any) to USM.

Memphis got whacked and Calipari skated.

I'd like nothing better than for UT to have yet another show cause bball coach.

The NCAA still hasn't proven Memphis did anything wrong. ETS simply says "they cannot confirm" Derrick Rose took that test...then the NCAA screams "strict liability"

But then they don't want to talk about corey maggette...

I always thought Tyndall was sleazy. Of course you USM folks know that. Hope it all shakes out OK.

Welcome to the NCAA hypocrisy. USM will get the death penalty, Tyndall will walk, and UNC will swept under the rug. G5 baby!

They were at USM with the intent of being scholarship athletes. They became scholarship athletes.

They lived off campus and apparently someone else paid for that.

I'm confused why you're confused. If the school could simply pay all the expenses for kids that weren't on athletic scholarship during the year(s) they're not eligible, then the big schools would just keep taking these guys.

I am confused why you are confused why he is confused. If they were scholarship players they would have counted against the scholarship numbers. They were paying for their own tuition, and as long as the school, coaches, or boosters didn't pay for it, they are fine.

Right, as long as they paid for it on their own they're fine, but apparently the NCAA thinks they didn't.

DaSaintFan made it sound like he didn't understand how it was an NCAA issue since they weren't on scholarship. If someone else was giving them benefits, whether they were under athletic scholarship at the time or not, it is an NCAA violation.

RE: Southern Miss under investigation
Niner, they were paying for their own tuition as allowed by prop-48. Intent to be a scholarship athlete is not the same as BEING a scholarship athlete.

Again, if they had been scholarship students, crack the whip on whomever is responsible. But they weren't. So it should be none of the NCAA's business who is paying for their schooling (even if it were a booster -what if it were a booster who happened to be a friend of the family?)

Sure a booster (note : This does not mean the school or a coaching staff member (tp which I would say bring down the hammer if that happened) COULD just pay for everyone who's not on athletic scholarship.. but you know what, that's them spending their own money in that regard and at some point.

And they did enough to become eligible earn a scholarship, and there's no further payment on their tuition by whomever after that fact. And the school didn't get any "bonus" scholarships to use on these kids, so I'm still not sure what the problem is.

Man, Tyndall sure put up a nice front, but the dude's just a straight-up douchenozzle. Should be a lesson for USM fans, who like to rally around folksy "nice guy" types but don't really connect with coaches who happen to be hair gel-using city slickers.

The investigation isn't of Eustachy or Fedora. It's an investigation of Donnie Tyndall, and if it's anywhere near as bad as it looks, we'll be paying the price for that asshat's decisions for years to come.

Oh, and he got to the quarterfinals of the NIT... twice. Maybe we can rename a parking lot "Nitchumpsburg" on his behalf.

Strange world we live in--- the money schools can cheat for years and it's "up in the air" whether they'll get penalized or not.

When the NCAA comes to a C-USA program or similar, you can bet your bottom dollar that some sanctons will be levied.

DaSaints, as a prop expert from Marshall let me tell you that if one dollar went to a prop that was from anywhere except a legit job or his family, you guys have an issue.

What I don't understand is that Donnie Tyndal has to be smarter than that. He knows that there has to be some pretense of legitimate income. There are a gazillion ways to demonstrate income regardless if the legitimate source exists or not.

The UNC scandal will actually help USM out of this situation. How could the NCAA come down hard on USM while they let UNC off the hook?
